Roy Jones KO4 Virgil Hill 1998.

A year and a half before their fight Virgil won a SD against Maske in Germany. Then in 1997 he faced Michalczewski, i just watched the fight on youtube and this is my scorecard. By the way Virgil was injured going into this fight as well.

I had it a draw but if Virgil didn't get that point deducted he would have won. I feel like i'm going to be in the minority here of how close I scored the fight, but I'm very sure i scored it right down the middle. I'm shocked that Virgil Hill's team didn't think it was that close.

    Hill-Michalczewski 115-115 / 116-114 without the point deduction.

    1.10-9
    2.10-10
    3.9-10
    4.10-9
5.10-9 (without the point taken away) (9-10, with point taken away)
    6.10-10
    7.9-10
    8.10-9
    9.10-9
    10.9-10
    11.9-10
    12.10-9

Virgil got deducted one point in the 5th for a low blow. Throughout the fight Dariusz landed like 8 rabbit punches. Not one time did he get deducted a point. He landed like 3 intentional rabbit punches in the 12th alone. (go watch the 12th if you don't believe me). But as soon as Virgil landed that accidental lowblow he gets a point taken away.

As for the fight it was boring, Dariusz was landing the harder shots but Virgil was more busier with his hands.

****en Germany is a horrible place to fight, lol do i really need to mention that though?

Anyways and 2 years later after Roy knocked Virgil out, Virgil defeated Tiozzo by knockout in round 1.

I think Virgil was still a very good fighter when Roy fought him, very good win to me.

It was a very good win and the knockout punch was sensational.

Detractors like to say Hill was past it when Jones got to him but the fact is Hill was still a terrific boxer and would be for a number of years afterwards.

As for Hill-Michalczewski I'm yet to see it but by your account it can be chalked up as yet another common Jones-Michalczweski foe that Jones beat in far more impressive fashion.

    One of Jones' best wins/performances.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

Sorry but DM won the fight pretty clearly, only when you really, really want Hill to have won it and ignore half of DM´s work you can have Hill winning. Even Hill and his team knew they had lost and didn´t complain. And yeah, Germany was such a bad place to fight that´s why Maske - who was a hero back then, he brought boxing back to public attention over here - lost a very close fight against Hill. If there was a close fight Hill would have lost it was the Maske one, not the DM one.
You try everything to talk Jones up, do you? Get your head out of Jones arse.

Hill was coming of a loss to DM and nearly a year layoff into the Jones fight and was a little past it. Still a Top5 win for Jones. Hill was certainly a very good lhw but his loss to an old Hearns while beeing in his prime hurts him very much. Great person though, very nice, humble, not your usual American loudmouth, wannabe gangster. I always liked him.

DM-Hill wasn't very close, man. DM won clear, 7-5, possibly 8-4, plus a point deduction.

But, Hill was damn good when Jones fought him, and showed himself well against DM. Jones placed a perfect shot and blew him away.

It's in Jones top 5 wins. He wouldn't be quite as great a fighter without it. Damn fine win.

    3. Hill

    Yep.

I dont know how anyone could believe DM would have been a challenge for Roy though. He had the same type of style that never worked against Jones.

DM beat Hill clearly. Jones over Hill was still impressive especially given the way it was ended.

I thought it was ok but Virgil was past his prime in this one. Virgil was actualy doing well and Jones being smart shocked him with the body punch.

Dm had a good chin and good defence, was aggressive, a very good puncher, can dictate a pace and a fight, had good timing and a very good jab. You can negate a speed advantage with timind and a good jab. DM had that and he had enough power to take out Jones. I´m not saying he would win but he would have been Jones biggest challenge and best win if they would have fought.

Yes Germany is a horrible place to go fight. It comes as no suprise though, you've seem what limits their nationalism has throughout the previous century. On par with Italy for blatant robberies and referee/judge corruption

This win seems a little like a fluke. I know a win is a win, but that was a punch you would not normally see. Virgil was not that great at 175 pounds anymore in 1998.

ok i'm gonna watch this DM/Hill fight again when i get home. I really don't want to cuz it's so boring, but i'm pretty sure i'll end up with pretty much the same scorecard.
