The heavy blows against Foreman, the insane punches he shipped versus Lewis and that beating Vitali laid on him...what are your thoughts?

He had an excellent chin, really. Lewis could really bomb, and Shannon did eat a lot of them. Foreman was still a heavy handed guy. They say Vitali can't punch much anymore, but he did do horrible damage to Shannon's face and beat him up badly and Shannon never went down in that fight.

I'd say his chin is pretty stout.
When you see some of the shots he took in these fights in slow mo,there sickening.

Nearly as formidable as his power, maybe more (or, conversely, non-formidable as his speed and stamina)

Damn, I just can't seem to ever cut the Cannon any slack. Even my compliments are backhanded.

I can't get the Wilson ko out of my head and that bothers me, but not to bad of a chin considering.

The only one fight where his chin was questioned was his 1st loss, when Darrol Wilson knocked him out cold in 3rd round. In other fights Briggs took lots of heavy bombs

Vitali fight was sickening. Most brutal fight of recent times that I know of or can remember. Only saw the highlights but that was enough for me and Vitali is no light hitter by any standard.

Not sure if you remember 'em, but Darchinyan vs. Burgos and Katsidis vs. Amonsot were every bit as horrifying.

    Both a deal worse, actually.

Both suffered extensive brain damage. Burgos (this is Victor, uncle of current barnstormer Juan Carlos "Miniburgos") was in a coma for a time and initially not expected to come out. Career's over. Same should have been true for Czar Amonsot but apparently he's fought on a few times. Sadly, probably out of financial necessity.

Both took unreal punishment - mostly head shots, flush - for too long, by any era'a standards. Czar made it to the final bell to lose a decision; Victor came within a minute.

Toughness is something we value as fans, but it carries a price as we receive somber reminders of every so often. :verysad

Case in point - the tragedy of Sergey Kovalev vs. poor brave Roman Simakov (RIP) just last year.

Briggs's best years were in the 90's. He had no duty fighting Vitali. Other than that- marble beard.

Shannon was pretty damn fast in his better days.
