i know a fella that trains with mike in vegas got him to ask mike about stevie.his reponse was "As far as Collins, he said Collins was in his opinion his toughest Fight. He remembered the crowd being so loud for Steve, and when it comes to Steve himself this is what he said: "Ah'm 'ittin' 'im, 'ittin' 'im, trowin everytin' at 'im, and dis mudda****a laughin' at me. Tough sumabitch." he also said "Mike said he respected Watson a lot, but that he wasn't THAT good. Very strong, and a lot of heart in there, but basically a walking target"
I haven't seen any of his fights in years and have no interest in rewatching them but I remember his style being ugly and not very entertaing to watch. Didn't help that he came after Benn, Eubank and Watson from a selling to tv pov either. I'm sure he made good money but was very limited as a fighter and got through on sheer determination.
Excellent fighter, one of the toughest fighters of recent times, iron chin,my dad who is a builder worked on a house next door to steve collins, said collins was a nice man, stopped and chatted to the lads every day..
Kalambay beat Collins by a wide margin imo.Steve hit nothing but gloves, arms and shoulders all fight.
Collins was a bit limited BUT he was as tough as teak with a big jeart and would give any fighter absolute hell...top pro :deal
