There are movies about Ruben Carter and Muhammad Ali. The movie about Carter is very flawed and a piece of crap imo.

As for the thread. Great movie. Just a notch below Rocky, Cinderella Man, and Raging Bull, though. Bale was superb. Whalberg was competent, and the rest of the cast did their jobs. The fight scenes were done interestingly... with that HBO kind of feel. I think the realism in the fights was pretty good, but I think you give a bit too much credit. As a boxing fan I'm probably harsh but there was a bit too much arm punching especially in that final fight scene.

What were the last big Hollywood movies about real-life boxers ?

You saying Cinderella Man is good ?
I heard it was awful, largely due to a horrible hatchet-job on Max Baer, and the over-sentimental portrayal of Braddock.

Yeah, i really didn't wanna anger anyone. but in all honesty, that's how i feel. white fighters like ward and braddock and rocky (based on Wepner) get these movies made after them, but black fighters have to be the greatest ever to have a movie made after them. Or in Carter's case, some absolutely horrific life circumstances.

Speaking of hurricane, I just had the honor of seeing him speak at Barnes and Noble about his new book. What an amazing person he is! Full of optomism and such an inspirational speaker. A great experience.

For every boxing movie that is made about a real fighter, there are usualy twenty real fighters whose careers would make a better film.

    This film is no exception.

Was a movie about Micky Ward realy a higher priority than a movie about Jack Johnson?

I didn't see that at all. All the fights looked staged and both guys were very tense and robotic in the way they threw there shots and they had no real fluidity in their style. Also Wahlberg skipped like a girl.

Not that I'm overanaylising them. Bale did move like a boxer though, the way he flicked that jab was good.

The Fighter was a very good film. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel or anything, but it was well acted, well scripted and the story was engaging.

Give me The Fighter over 95% of the **** released these days...

    Well....anyone can write a script.

I hope to write a script about Johnson one day, but I am not nearly as equipped with the facts as I need to be, yet.

But a Johnson movie would be produced right away if someone gave them a good script

First series of shots, MUST be

    1. A few pan shots of an angry white crowd, soft music build up

    2. Crowd yelling builds up as their eyes follow someone walking below them, but the camera cannot see who.

    Fade to Black

    Fade to:
    3. Music goes into full effect, drowning out the angry crowd, while in front of a camera, a Closeup of Johnson with a huge smile on his face walking towards the camera/ring in Slow Motion!

    Cmon....that would be epic!

I thought it was a good, solid movie but not great.

Christian Bale was great, Mark Wahlberg was alright but sort of bland. Then again, Micky Ward seemed to be a bland sort of person anyway.

    The fight scenes were disappointing.
