ps You are not your Father . I don't use any books as a bible but the fact that none of those I've read even mentions Turner is perhaps significant.Authors bigging themselves up does NOT explain that!
I am not my father, but I am his son. And fortunately, unlike some, I have a very healthy, happy, and transparent relationship with him. And he happily shares his stories, knowledge, and wisdom with me. No it's ****ing not. The amount of relationships Ali built in one lifetime is staggering and most likely unprecedented. There are hundreds of people in his life, way closer to him than Turner was, that you will never hear about in the books. Put that in your tea pot, and sip it.
I'm glad you have a good relationship with your Father, there is nothing like family, I was at my parents grave today placing a Xmas wreath. I'm actually drinking craft ale at the moment,"RingWoods" FORTY NINER.
The reason Don Turner said he knew Muhammad Ali (or Cassius Clay) since he was a kid, is probably because Don Turner knew Cassius Clay when he was a kid. I mean, there are other possible reasons why he said it, all coming under the heading "Lies". But most likely he knew Ali when Ali was a kid. It's not at all hard to believe. Both boxers, both around the same age, Turner 2 or 3 years his senior. By all accounts, even as a kid Cassius Clay tended to make an impression on people who crossed his path. Loads of boxers, amateur and pro, have said similar things. They knew him from the early days.
Turner was in Cincinnati until 1959, I'm not familiar with US geography ,how near is that to Kentucky?
Isn't this your thread?? Seems like the "underwriting" is that you've been crazy about Turner's personal opinions about Marciano ever since you discovered them, and you've been trying to build him up to bolster the weight of his words ever since. You saw the names on his resume and hoped that you would be able to use his name to give your own opinions about how older heavyweights would fare against more modern athletes more credibility. Be honest with yourself.
People travel. It's actually very close. I think Ohio borders Kentucky. Louisville, KY is 99 miles from Cincinatti, OH. Not that it matters. I doubt Turner was stuck in Cincinnati every day of his life until 1939. People travel. Transport was pretty good in 1950s America. Trains, buses, automobiles. etc. Cassius Clay was definitely in Cincinnati in 1957, for what it's worth, and was in Chicago, and all sorts of other places, as an amateur boxer, in the 1950s. Like I said, lots of boxers report remembering him from the early days, when he was 16 or 17 or younger.
