Something to really like about Wlad: He NEVER makes any statements about his ranking in comparison to past champions. Unlike so many loudmouthed fighters like Briggs who said he is greater than Ali because he won the title with asthma or Johnson who says only Ali and Holmes could have beaten him or Holmes' statements about Marciano.....
I never thought I'd be saying this 5 years ago, but barring something unforeseen, Wladimir Klitschko will be in the Hall of Fame and somewhere among the Top 20 All time Heavyweights after he retires.
he's definately in the top 100 heavyweights of all time! and he definately belongs in the european HOF. lol
never in the ring true but outside it? the number of opponents he ducked you can sure bet he was scared. but you're bang on: he had an in ring intensity and tenacity wlad currently lacks
Wladimir is a guaranteed HOF'er and will likely retire as a top 10 ATG at HW. He is already top 15 IMO as he easily ranks ahead of guys like Riddick Bowe as far as I'm concerned, and I've seen Bowe on many people's top 15 lists.
What exactly has Wlad, or Vitali for that matter, done to be classed as hall of fame entrants at HW? The fact is that Wlad's losses reflect on him very badly. Purrity, Sanders and Brewster are footnotes in a dreadful era post-Lewis. He's done incredibly well since then, in fairness. His performance, while not exciting, are solid, composed and he uses his tools excellently. His wins are over mediocre opposition historically. The best guys he's faced since resurrecting his career are: Byrd, Ibragimov and Chagaev - Ibragimov's a non-entity Byrd had been trounced by Wlad before but remains good win Chagaev's best win was against Valuev, then he got sick and only faced a fringe contender in Skelton adnd a journeyman inbetween. The manner in which he lost to Wlad pretty much sums his ability up. Not scintillating reading really, is it? He deserves credit for beating the best out there, but it's not really much of a feat when what's out there is so crap. That's just fanboy wishful thinking, I'm afraid. You don't get points just for turning up.
