I think Canelo gives Cotto one hell of a beating and probably retires him from the sport, Canelo is in his prime or close to it while Cotto is past it i really cant see Cotto beating or even be competitive with the young buck, This kid Canelo is the Truth he has all the tools to be a future pound for pound king.

Cotto out-boxes him for a wide UD. Canelo has his moments, but Cotto is simply the better boxer at this point.

Couple of years back I introduced teenage Canelo as a potentially more gifted version of young Cotto, a calm killer with excellent fundamentals, but who stopped developing after a while. At 22 Alverez IMO is already better than any 140lbs version of Miguel, but of course lately Cotto showed good signs himself, so it's not an easy fight to predict, especially as I see Trout giving Miguel enough problems and potentially a loss - that fight will tell me a lot about where Cotto is right now. But to answer your question, Canelo seems to have the slight edge right now, Miguel's been through a lot and another war could be problematic.

Canelo will destroy this guy, he will buckle cotto often much in the same way Mayweather did in the last few rounds of their epic encounter. He has good combonitation punching decent defence and is starting to walk down his opponents.

competitive fight, Canelo takes it 7-5
he's smart, got a good variety of punches and great power, good chin, he's the bigger guy too
Cotto is a seasoned veteran but he's past his prime

I got Cotto wininig in an epic battle. 7-5 Cotto.

He will out box and wil hurt Canelo. The young buck has some skills, Ill admit it, but he has not really proven his skills with anyone the caliber of Cotto...until then, he will be nothing more than "highly hyped" prospect.

GB, let the boy become a man and fight some quality fights.

Miguel was a fugging Terminator @ 140. Something to be feared. Also, he was fighting some quality opponents not the inflated/smaller/past prime opposition that Canelos has faced.

Cotto was a flawed beast at 140 who relied more on his physical advantage than his solid fundamentals he's been working on lately. Let's not forget his close fights with N'Dou and Malignaggi and major troubles vs. Corley and Torres. Ironically the last one to hurt Canelo was named Cotto, but ever since moving up, Alvarez has been dominating and untroubled - and that's because he didn't forget about his boxing, look at the Mosley fight.
