I'm going out on a limb and saying Kovalev by stoppage. As tough and as great as Hopkins is based on what I saw last time I watched him vs. Murat Kovalev will be hitting him cleanly and Hopkins will go down from it and stay down for the first time in his career. Always prepare for egg on your face when betting against B-Hop but there you have it.
Kovalev pressuring BHop never letting him get onto a rhythm and KOing him with a body shot in round 3
I just don't know on this one. I'm guessing it'll be Hopkins throwing Kovalev off his rhythm, with his quick switches from D to O. The two things that'll determine the outcome of this fight are how Kovalev responds to a guy that'll be constantly breaking up his offense with sudden flurries and how Hopkins will respond to Kovalevs power. If Hopkins ever lets Kovalev start to flow then I think it's game over, but interrupting an opponents offense before it gets going is one of BHops greatest talents. This really is a very intriguing matchup for me. I started off very much thinking that Kovalev flattens the aging BHops, but now I'm seeing a much closer fight (after hours of rewatching footage of both). I still think that Kovalev wins, but he's gonna have to adapt to a whole different game to beat Hopkins.
The early rounds will go to Kovalev. Hopkins tends to start slow these days and will take a few rounds to get going. By the middle rounds Hopkins will have had time to adjust and figure out Kovalev and this is where he'll most likely have his most success in this fight. Hopkins is too crafty and good defensively to be stopped even by a puncher like Kovalev, so it will go to the score cards. The last 3rd of the fight is where the fight will be won. I see Hopkins fading having used too much energy to keep Kovalev at bay. Kovalev wins on points.
Could be all over for the old dog. But I gave on betting the Hopkins getting old overnight about 10 years ago.
This sounds sensible. I dont think we can learn much from the Murat fight, Hopkins will not fight Kovalev like that.
I just can't pick against the Alien. One of my favorite fighters of all time. He's defied father time and logic too much for me to ever doubt the Extraterrestrial Executioner. Hopkins by split decision.
As he usually does in these situations, Hopkins is going to come out and do much better than expected. He will still lose but I don't think he's getting destroyed or blown out. Not rulling out a stoppage though but Kov is going to have to work for it. Hopkins is going to head butt, clinch, rabid punch, and of course, flash some brilliant boxing in spurts.
Kov by tko/ko by the beginning or round 7. kovs skills are so underrated its crazy. not only will he have the power but he will also outbox hops when they are in center ring. hops goes to the ropes and its over. cant decide if its a tko/ko from head or body shots.
