how well do you see this guy performing on the world stage at lightweight, hes a big strong lightweight but lacks footowork and speed and can be outboxed i think he'll be involved in some serious tear ups not sure if he'd win them all but he'll provide some garanteed entertainment value,

I see him struggling and struggling badly unless he can get active and target the weakest of champions. He was very promising fighter up till two years ago and it's all fallen away. I don't see much to him other then a train track pressure fighter who can be out boxed at domestic level. He will need to really improve to become a world champion but he's got the hunger so good luck to lad.

Soto is a winnable fight for Murray....I wasn't particularly impressed with Soto against Diaz and I reckon the strength and pressure of Murray would give him a tough night, whether Johns useless promotor can get him a title shot or not is another matter.

The Lightweight division is pretty weak at the moment to tbh, Valero is moving up and I cant see JMM sticking around at 135 after Diaz so the opportunity for Murray to make an impact on the world stage is there.

Need to see what he looks like in his next fight when he (hopefully) makes a legit step up in competition.

I think he's be in some good fights - don't think he'd win against any of the top guys though.

With the speed of his promotion about as fast as his footwork doesn't look like we'll find out though.

even if he was kept active the best you could hope for from him is another jamie moore like fighter IMO, altough hes big, hard and strong he falls short of world class,

Can't argue with that at all. He hasn't shown anything else. Plus he stops domestic fighters on accumulation of pressure and that's worrying if he fights like that against domestic fighters he probably struggle against true world class but in saying that not all world champions are true world class. I like Murray but he will need to improve a fair bit.

Isn't amazing to think that just 3-4 years ago a lot of people thought that Murray was a better prospect than Khan?

John Murray certainly had potential and maybe was better than Khan. However, his career stalled and Khan, as we know, got all the lucky breaks. (as is another British Lightweight, Kevin Mitchell, at the moment.)

He, Murray, is still only in his mid-20's but he needs something big to happen within the next 18 months. I read somewhere that he was going to sign for Hatton Promotions and that would be a step in the right direction. However, would it be enough to turn him into someone who could mix it at World level? I don't think so. His best bet would be to aim for the EBU title and maybe get an alphabet title shot on the back of it but it'd only be a good pay day and nothing else.

yeh but i think it was of a case of people either not rating or not likeing Khan rather than thinking allot of John Murray. I think his brother will go further.

Well his promoter is awful, he has no charisma, and to be frank he lost Al Hamidi, Euro level is as far as he will get.

I think a lot of it was to do with people feeling Murray could beat Khan in a fight and had a better chin so therefore they felt he was a better prospect then Khan.

I don't see him going far at all (sorry). This guy is satisfied with wins over Jon Thaxton (With all respect, Thaxton was a shot fighter who had nothing left)

This guy had a set up fight in the US next and they cancelled it. John Murray doesn't have the dedication IMO. Otherwise he'd fight anyone. I even see him struggling at European level. And the Lightweight Division is quite loaded ATM.
