How do you think 12th round will affect Martinez in future?

He was taking a lot of big shots. I was amazed by how he managed to keep standing in the last minute.
Although Martinez was triumphant, do you think Martinez will fight more conservatively in the future?

not necessarily conservative, just smarter, Chavez was doing absolutely nothing for 11 1/2 rounds, and Sergio got caught off guard, but he's intelligent enough not to let it happen again in the future

Will it affect him physically? It wasn't much of a contest until the KD, but he was pretty badly hurt in the end, and close to 40 that takes it's toll more than in your 20s.

Martinez won't change the thing though, because that's the kind of fighter he is. I mean he was stopped by Margarito 10 years ago and he's still going at it.

He will go back to resting in the middle rounds. Especially against those that have great size advantage on him, like Jr and Pavlik.

Must be very grueling going against such big, pressuring ****ers like that over 12 rounds.

Anyone in a similar situation would be just as exhausted. Really pretty amazing he can still stand after 12 rounds, considering his age and fighting style.

And another reason it probably is not a good idea to move any higher up in weight.

In the 12th round, I was having flashbacks of the loss to Marg. And how in the HBO faceoff, Chavez said "remember that time when you last fought in las vegas, and it was against a mexican." ahhh i just hope maravilla doesn't get into that kind of situation again. can't handle too many of those :-(

ya i was surprised he didn't slow down too much in the middle rounds. that explains why he was even more tired in the later rounds. i wonder why he chose not to take as much of a breather in the middle rounds.

maybe he thought he could get the TKO? or maybe he feared that would give Chavez an opportunity to step up earlier?

It won't. So what if he got knocked down. No biggie. He got straight back up and that to punching. Just showed Martinez was in excellent shape and well conditioned. Big heart.

Tbh I would rather be a fan of a fighter (Sergio) who gets knocked down, get's back up and kicks ass. Jr. got paid 3 million to get taught a masterclass in boxing.

Not at all, if his immediate reaction was any indication.

It isn't like he is going to be careful from now on and keep his hands up

He's a proud guy and likes doing things his way. He won't be rattled by the 12th going forward. If anything, having escaped it in such swashbuckling manner will only increase his cheek.

Everyone's treating the knockdown as if he got KO'd and got exposed or something... at least the Martinez haters are.

Him being knocked down and getting back up to fight it out for another minute just shows that he has quick recovery and can afford to go toe to toe with hard hitters...Even if he got knocked down it doesn't mean much...I mean cmon Jr was at least a CW fight night, it's ridiculous

The only thing I seem him changing up is him going toe to toe in the earlier rounds when he so tired as he was in the final round. It'll let him to a quick evasive maneuver to recover and go back for more head on encounters.

Its not like its the first time he's gone down. Martinez doesn't have the sturdiest chin or best balance, but has very good recovery.

It will be in his head Vs. Chavez in a rematch.
(It will also change the way a second fight would play out)

He has already made millions he doesn't need a Chavez fight again.

It will affect him greatly near 40 year old fighters don't usually recover from being sevely concussed, and coupled with blow out his knee from chicken dancing, Martinez career is done by the time he recovers 100% his prime will be past it
