None of the kickboxing heavyweights of that period would be able to handle his punching, but he would be extremely vulnerable to leg kicks. Just look at how Bob Sapp manhandled Ernesto Hoost, and Bob Sapp is a big muscle without any technique. The only thing that might have saved any of Tyson's opponents is the three round limit in K-1.
Sick of daft MMA fans who come up with **** like this. It takes much more stamina to do 12x3 than 4x3. Elite boxing is just as demanding as MMA and kick-boxing is on fitness. Also yes kicks are a dangerous part of kick boxing but unlike MMA this is all striking and boxers can do well. Just look at Shannon Briggs.
actually , he wouldn't even need to use his feet and seeing and its a 3 round fight Tyson would be very dangerous
In the 90's HWY kickboxer Dennis Alexio challenged Tyson...Tyson didn't even respond. Not enough money in Kickboxing for a prime boxer to risk there reputation and livelihood. Only old washed up boxers have tried and usually don't do well (washed up). If Tyson had a passion for kickboxing he may have done well, but without knowing how his kicking and reaction to being kicked who the hell knows
Again it's a weird hypothetical that can't really be answered, but the closet analogy we can find is Zambidis in K1 Max. A small, aggressive power puncher who likes to attack. Everyone likes the brave litte Zambidis but his K1 record is actually pretty ****. He's failed against everyone of the top boyz he fought. Struggles with knees, good kicks and height. May have been similar for Iron Mike. Non KB and MT fighters always underestimate the power of the straight knee against a puncher even if a knee's never thrown in the fight smaller aggressive fighters are always wary if it against taller fighters, it can finish instantly or gradually over a round or so. Imagine a body punch keep slamming into your abs and solar every time u come into unload with you hands and remember its way more powerful than a punch, it's kryptonite to an aggressive puncher..... 1st sentence: Depends on which weight class your talking about. 2nd sentence is untrue. His style should be tailor made for a taller fighter with good straight knees & clinch skills or a fighter specialising in low kicks mixed with quality punches while on the backfoot. Spot on. His would have been a massive problem against any kickboxer especially a kickboxer whith an MT background which is most. Disagree totally about the similarity if record. Everything that made him successful in boxing is a no no in KB & MT. The way he bobbed and weaves so low and leant forward and exploded in close to the opponent, a sure recipe for death by straight knee. Lots of weight on the front foot with almost everything he did a sure recipe for death by low kick. Not trying to make it a this sport agsinst the other pissing contest, but there have never really been any noticeable converts from boxing to KB or MT although there have been plenty coming the other way from MT & KB to boxing. Good post. I remember Alexio calling out Tyson. Three was a big interview with him in the WMTC 1st magazine. And Alexio wasn't even the big dog at the time I remember Alexio ducking Maurice Smith & Stan the Man. He did eventually fight Stan the Man and we all know it ended brutally. :yep
Are we asking about Tyson converting after some stage of his boxing career or being trained in MT from the get-go? Because those are two completely different scenarios.
