Most people on here want to see Parker get a shot at Usyk next, but I haven't seen much discussion regarding how the actual fight would play out. So what do you think? I rate Parker highly but I don't think he has the style to beat Usyk or even seriously trouble him, even this aging version of Usyk.
I think Parker and team can come up with a plan to give Usyk some trouble and win some rounds. The problem for them will be that Usyk adjusts brilliantly and turns it up. And then it will be on Parker to dig deep and pull out all his tools. Another thing is Usyk is getting on and had some hard fights and he is starting to look at retirement, he could show is age in the ring. Plus I think Parker hasn't really been on his radar as an opponent like Joshua and Fury were. Usyk would have to be the heavy favourite, but I'd take a punt in everything going right for Parker and him taking it in the end
As a Parker fan (albeit one who has consistently underestimated him since the Joyce fight), I think stylistically this is very difficult. Usyk is faster, more skilled, and more mobile and has a better engine - so Parker needs to hurt Usyk to win.
I like Parkers chances against Dubois and Kabayel way more than Usyk. He is too cultivated a boxer to let Parker roam from the outside and strike at range. Movement doesnt beat Usyk. Stylistically it's not a good match up for him.
Parker is a good fighter and I like and respect him a lot but Parker is too ordinary for Usyk IMO. His best shot is to be on the frontfoot and try and attack Usyk like Chisora did. Parker will be embarrassed if he makes it a boxing match. I think Usyk wins 9 to 3 rounds, maybe 10 to 2 via the judges. I would be a bit surprised if Usyk knocked Parker out though. Usyk is an ATG - but it is a good fight and a very respectable name on his record.
I like Parker and have been saying for many months that this is the fight, but at the end of the day Usyk beats him on activity and southpaw wizardry.
To paraphrase Terry Chapendama, Parker went life and death with Ruiz and Hughie Fury Been dropped by Whyte. KOd by Joyce Sat on a decision loss against Joshua. Beat Chisora, Zhang, Wilder (all shot fighters) Fought a 22 stone Bakole who was in no shape. I see nothing in this resume to make him a Usyk beater or undisputed champ. Nothing personal against the guy.
Ruiz - close fight with a lot of swing rounds. Both stylistically very similar back then being quick draw exchange punchers with not a lot of power. Could see a call for both fighters getting the nod, but hardly a gift decision. Really early days in Parker's career that fight. Joshua- Agreed with you on this fight. He switched off and coasted. Ironically, this is top 3 of AJ's best wins Hughie Fury - f*ck me there has been a lot of revisionist history around this fight, which centers around a dodgy judge calling it for Fury to give the final scorecard a SD. Fury legged it around the ring all night and didnt land a single clean punch. Lots of petty games played by Fury's team pulling out mid camp, delaying the fight and shifting from Auckland to Manchester. It was a stinker, but a wide, wide win for JP which should have been a UD. He dominated. Dillian Whyte - first KD was a blatant headbutt and Whyte was getting away with blind murder all night and Parker still nearly won it at the death. Joe Joyce - had just battered DDD and was on some tear. His losses against Zhang have not aged well with recent results, but early 2020's Joyce was a huge threat to any fighter. A damaging loss but it didn't happen in a vacuum. Chisora - Del Boy is who he is. Hardly shot and is capable of giving any fighter a rough night. Parker battered him in the second fight and scored x3 KD's. Not many Heavyweights have done that to him. Wilder- not the same caliber of fighter he once was but a proven opponent nevertheless who was coming off the back of a 1st Rd KO victory. Zhang - coming off the back of his decimation of Joe Joyce. Not sure where your coming from he was hardly a shot fighter. His engine has always been his kryptonite. Bakole - was what it was given the circumstances with DDD pulling out. Parker did what he had to; scoring a legit KO to put away 'the most avoided fighter' according to every reputable pundit. Rd 2 KO was the best possible result. I feel if you look hard enough you can poke holes in every modern HW's resume outside of Usyk. Bigger upsets have happened and far lesser skilled fighters than Parker have reigned as Champion, though I'd pick Usyk for the win.
To beat Usyk you have to knock him out or seriously hurt him early in the fight so he doesn’t get in sixth gear later in the fight. I expect it to be a typical Usyk fight where Parker won’t be able to keep up physically and mentally from round 8 forward. Usyk UD.
I love Parker and he’ll show up and give you a performance. I doubt Usyk KO’s him but there is a class difference here. Usyk 9-3 or thereabouts. Parker will have a moment or two because he’s a quality fighter but Usyk is basically the grand master of boxing.
Parker is on an upward trajectory and is on fire lately. Usyk is going to get caught by Father Time at some point if he keeps fighting. Could be a recipe for an upset. the biggest threat I see to Usyk though would be Kabayel. After Saturday, I might even slightly favor Kabayel over Usyk. make no mistake, a body attacker like Kabayel will know damn well Usyk’s seeming vulnerability there and make it his entire fight plan. won’t happen though. Turki likes undisputed fights. Won’t be surprised if Usyk’s next fight is Dubois.
Parker does have a chance but Uysk will rightly go in as the favourite. I mean anything can happen so Parker shouldn't be ruled out.
