and you see... that's the thing. when he first demonstrated to me how to throw it with the weight transfer to the lead foot, I tried to copy his movement by pushing off of my rear leg and he told me not to push off the rear leg, and that it should all be from the hips. so I'm guessing what he meant was that while your weight is even on the balls of both feet, instead of pushing off the rear, you are placing weight on the front leg.:tired:tired:tiredatsch The technicalities seem SO unnecessarily meticulous to the point of being downright frivolous at times.
:think maybe he wants you to pivot your hips and feet as if you're throwing a hook with less twisting
Hmmm... the "falling weight" technique actually sort of seems how the coach was showing me, I noticed that with every transfer of his weight to his lead foot he extended his jab at the same time. I was always worried that wouldn't this telegraph the punch?
Wow... It's almost like you read my coaches mind today, he drilled it into me about my lack of balance and needing to work on my foot placement. (Something about that I need to stay inside the pocket) another confusing term that I really dont understand! I always thought the pocket was the space inbetween the opponent's legs, but today he showed me different. *SIGH* I saw him teaching some other kids how to shadow box, since I have no clue how to do it, I'll probably ask him so I can take some of my work home with me.
Thanks. Do you find it that the turning over of the lead hand slows down your punch by just a hair, rather than if you were just to shoot it straight out? I guess I'm going to have to work on the coordination of turning the hand over while snapping it out fast at the same time.
Yeah... maybe. I'll have to ask. From what I've seen of him showing me. It looks like just a half-step with the lead foot. Maybe I'm just a whiner, because he told me that I was doing fine with it, but that I needed to work on my stance and foot placement though. Just my luck-- I would have trouble with the seemingly most easiest and first boxing technique to be shown to me. atsch
Leave your hand slightly open, and close it as you turn the punch. (make sure you do, or you'll mess your hand up) If you're co-ordinated enough to do that then you'll increase punching speed.
yeah I'm guessing what Bogo is saying is what your coach wants. Fix your stance and balance and everything else will fall into place. I've been trying to fix mine and perfect it while moving a lot recently and it's made tons of difference. Read this and see if this helps also with your stance. http://www.expertboxing.com/how-to-box/the-perfect-boxing-stance And when you're standing in your stance, where do you put most of your weight? Completely in the middle, in front, in the back, or front and to the left, etc
I need to rejoin a gym first. I'm going to go to live with my cousin in the summer though to work, so it'll be even harder  At least I'll have the money I'll need for when I get back in August
^^Great advice! Coach KEPT telling me to relax, and told me that I was punching much too mechanical. He demonstrated that it needed to be natural, easy, relaxed, and I even think he implied that there should be a "rhythm" to it!! Who would ever think that the sport where you fight with clenched fists would have techniques almost opposite to what the average person thinks about boxing? Completely threw me for a loop!
