Riddick Bowe seemed to have Evander Holyfield's number. I have seen that before in Heavyweight history. Other than that, I really do not think very much of him. I think the potential for some degree of greatness was present with Riddick, but he never wanted that badly enough so he never became an all time great heavyweight.
Let’s do Norton vs Bowe then since they’re so known for their two wins over highly-regarded Champions (yes Norton won twice, debatably even three times).
Could Have been so much better imo. Winning the title should have made him a better fighter but he went the opposite way. It was probably his own fault for losing to Holyfield, he'd started down the Buster Douglas Road to training and eating habits.
Wow. You must dislike Bowe wholeheartedly I can agree on possible DQ losses as Bowe was dirty fighter in some fights. I completely disagree on Tubbs and I scored Bowe vs Tubbs 7-3 or 6-4 to Bowe, similar to judges and most observers. Can't see how you can score it for Tubbs. Bowe did took numerous shots and was never stopped and dropped only once vs Holyfield who also managed to drop Ray Mercer and Mike Tyson, and the only one man to ever drop and KO absolutely iron-chinned Dwight Qawi. Golota landed 408 punches on Bowe in the rematch and still couldn't stop him. Hide a mediocre puncher? And Bowe was never dropped by him.
he probably has the best win of the 90's, his trilogy with Holy is great, in each of those 3 fights Bowe was one of the best ever. In the fights against Seldon, Ferguson, Dokes, Gonzales looked like an unbeatable guy. Unfortunately, like Tyson, he lost discipline. Golota's style didn't suit him, a quick left straight was the recipe for Bowe. Larry Holmes would outclass him, but would anyone else? A fight with Tyson would be great. In my opinion he was much better than Lennox Lewis but not enough significant victories to put him in the top 10 although he is not far away
An excellent fighter who lacked discipline later in his career .This cost him in terms of reaching his true potential. The 92 ,93 Bowe beats that years Lewis I think. Lewis developed as a fighter unfortunately Bowe went backwards.
Bowe was brought along very well. He had good attributes, he was brave and could fight. Initially did what he set out to do. Won the title. But he did not dominate a division. He shared an era with Lewis and Holyfield…and fared less well overall than either of them.
Yes, the narrative has developed that Tubbs didn't really win it, but everyone who watched it at the time knew he did. Yes, Hide could punch was was smallish and never really stopped anyone elite. Both Golata and Hide had him wobbled.
