i remember reading about this mexican fighter who killed 2 other fighters in the ring i believe the 1st guy he had loaded gloves and the other was just an accident because his neck snapped when he landed on the rope people critized him because he felt completely uninfected by the deaths and i believe he coudnt get any title shots because of it srr killed jimmy doyle but still went on to achieve great things basically how does a death affect a fighter and his career?
"Upon the surgeon's announcement of Campbell's death, Baer broke down and sobbed inconsolably. Brain specialist Dr. Tilton E. Tillman "declared death had been caused by a succession of blows on the jaw and not by any struck on the rear of the head," and that Campbell's brain had been "knocked completely loose from his skull" by Baer's devastating blows." "The death of Campbell and accusations over Schaaf's demise profoundly affected Baer, even though he was ostensibly indestructible and remained a devastating force in the ring. According to his son, actor/director Max Baer Jr. (who was born seven years after the incident): "My father cried about what happened to Frankie Campbell. He had nightmares. In reality, my father was one of the kindest, gentlest men you would ever hope to meet. He treated boxing the way today's professional wrestlers do wrestling: part sport, mostly showmanship. He never deliberately hurt anyone." Baer gave purses from succeeding bouts to Campbell's family, but lost four of his next six fights. (Still bothered by what he had done.) Max Baer took it really hard from what is written about him.
Max Baer considered Livermore his hometown and we have a park named after him. Excellent fighter. It's a shame he had to cope with the thought that he killed 2 men in the ring. That will do a number on anybody with a good heart. Boom Boom Mancini was never the same after his bout with Kim as well. I bet the guy still cries about that from time to time. It's a sport, not a deathmatch. I know if I was in their shoes and killed a man in a boxing match, I would be devastated. Don't think I would ever be able to fight again.
It can. Depends who you are. I am sure people have retired or even suffered mentally for this type of thing. A recent case of a death in the ring had to do with Omar Chavez. And he has moved on. So It depends on who u are.
Money May beat the brakes off Jesus Chaves, but Chaves did kill someone. Leavander Johnson I think it was.
Edwin Valero hasn't had a single fight since his death. I'd say it puts a pretty heavy damper on a fighter's career.
