How does a fighter like Joshua Clottey not get the kind of respect he deserves?

I was just rewatching a bunch of fights from him and this guy has some of the best boxing skill ive seen in the last 10 years, hes very slick like mayweather (overall not as much ring intelligence as floyd) but still he should be a star with his talent. I'd pick clottey to beat cotto, cintron, and a close fight with margarito at this point in time

You earn respect bud . . . how? By accomplishment.

What has Clottey accomplished so far? Hang on with Margarito for 12 rounds and beat an out of prime Diego Corales?

He's got to accomplish more than that to earn respect.

Clottey also got ripped off in a fight he was winning against Baldomir, only to be controversially dq'd. I think Clottey has not been expertly promoted or managed up until now. He's one of those fighters to avoid, too much risk not enough reward. It is to Margarito's credit he fought Cottey and Williams as well. It's not like the other major Welters were lining up to fight either guy.
Judah is taking a big chance fighting Clottey. A loss could effectively end Zab's career.

I agree with what you're saying except for a loss for Judah would end his career. People will still pay to see judah fight cause he is a big name with the style he has. He'll still get big fights like Roy Jones does.

Yeah sure . . . but Cotto has already established his name by defeating Quintana, Mosley and Zab before he succumb to Margarito.

Clottey was able to survive Margarito not because he is a super fighter . . . he survive because he is a more defensive fighter than Cotto.

What ever . . . you cannot say that's quite an accomplishment . . . it still came out as a loss. :D

If he defeated Margo despite the injured hand . . . then you have a case.

He is missing that big win. A shot, out of weight corrales does not do it. If her gets by Judah and then a big win over Cotto or Margarito then we can talk.

Clottey hasn't fought enough big name fighters to get respect. He will get that respect very soon. I think he is a top 5 welterweight today

He actually injured both his hands and still managed to win 4-5 rounds.
