probably by default. he's undefeated and the current champ.
but yeah, i do agree that as of now he still doesn't have a good resume to back it up.

There's still debate about that one and herein lies the problem. If he stuggled that much with Collazo then imagine what Pacman will do to him.

Styles make fights. The way he performed in the third round against Collazo was absolutely flawless. That's why I think he needs some work. I say three more fights and he should take the shot. Just don't fight once or twice every year. Put your work in.

He has to fight the rematch against Collazo since Collazo was robbed.
If he can defeat Collazo then he couuld move ahead.

Berto makes a lot of sense for both Mayweather and Pacquiao. As long as Pacquiao keeps ducking Mayweather, and Mayweather decides to box again. Breto is a low risk high reward oppoent for both. While he has a dangrous offense he is very stiff and there to be hit by faster boxers like Pacquiao and Mayweather. Both should beat him easily. He also holds the WBC belt at 147 which would add to the colection of either Maywether or Pacquiao.

Everyone saying Berto struggled with Collazo, did Cotto not struggle with Clottey? Manny gave him a shot right after that, why not Berto after coming off a KO win?

**** all this hype on berto, he's just looking for a payday, aint no way he's beating pacman of floyd, and noway are they going to get such credit for beating him!
He should rule that division by taking on mosley and in that time waiting for the top lightwelters to move up and face him...hes a good fighter not an elite fighter....so he shouldnt be messin with them...period !

He fought like an idiot vs Collazo, and did not deserve the win. He fought like a scared P*ssy against Urango (a man that is a division below him)...Alexander did what Berto couldn't do for gods sake!
He doesn't deserve a shot and isn't at there level. If either Mayweather or Pac beat him everyone is going to say BERTO IS TO GREEN, and UNPROVEN! No point in fighting him at this stage

Beating the crap out of Marquez at whatever weight Marquez offered to Pac would be a sure fire way to get a fight with Pacquiao...:smoke

The logic of some boxing fans is borderline insane. How are you expected to become the best if you can't fight the best. If he was ready for Mosley back in January, then he's more than ready for a name fighter in early 2011.

    Let's look at Berto's credentials:

    • 27 years old, moving into his prime
    • Undefeated after 27 fights (21 KO)
    • Already defeated the top tier B-classers, most with ease
    • The WBC welterweight champ since 2008
    • Ring ranks him #3 (behind May and Pac), and has had a top 10 ranking since at least his destruction of Estrada back in 2007.
    • Quick and powerful hands. Well-rounded boxing skillset.
For me, aside from Mayweather, Berto is the most logical opponent. You're hating on Berto for going after a payday, yet doesn't Mayweather and Pacquiao do the exact same thing as well?

And history suggests even if you are a major celeb champ, you can still face less well-known challengers.

Berto needs to fight atleast 2 proven WW. (Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley)
