Say Beterbiev fought in the 40s as a light heavyweight and heavyweight (which he probably would like many of his peers). How would he fare in that era?

He does well but anyone who thinks he is going unbeaten is living in a fantasy world. He would be fighting 4-6 times a year. Given his history of injuries, he will likely lose some.

I think LHW Charles beats him though if the fight multiple times, Beterbiev might sneak in a couple of wins.

Moore-Beterbiev would be excellent and i don't know whom i would pick.

I think Beterbiev would beat Bivins and especially Maxim comfortably.

Louis flattens him though Beterbiev might score a flash knockdown early.

Not sure if Beterbiev could beat the 6'6 242 lb Budy Baer.

All in all, he does great at light-heavyweight and most likely captures the championship at some point. I doubt he would campaign at heavyweight but if he did, i don't think he could handle the power of a Louis or a big heavyweight like Budy Baer.

I just think he would fight at heavyweight because, let's be honest, with day before weigh ins, he's likely 185-195 on fight night. He's no smaller than Moore, Bivins, Charles, Maxim or Conn who fought at heavyweight. Even Foster was a heavyweight

Agreed. It’s crazy how today it takes some of these guys 10 years to build up a 20-0 record.

Baer wasn't very good and likely would be in no position to use his power. Who did Baer ever kayo

Does not matter. He was a 240 lb giant with a good punch.

Beterbiev is very hittable and he would need to move towards Baer. Johnson wasn't very good and yet he dropped Beterbiev. Are you really willing to say Baer wouldn't land the kind of shots that he did on Louis that knocked Joe out of the ring? He absolutely would and Beterbiev wouldn't get up.

I like Beterbiev but folks are getting carried away. He has yet to beat even a hard hitting cruiserweight, yet alone a hard hitting 240 lb guy. I just don't understand how people can favour a hittable 185 lb guy over a 240 lb guy who by all accounts could punch.

I think he'd be actually fight at middleweight a bit too. Fighters were smaller back then, and the short answer as to why is simple; roids and quality of life. I could see Beterbiev starting at 160, with Burley, Williams, Lytell and the others and eventually outgrowing it as he made some money. Kinda like Moore and Charles but it'd probably happen a bit quicker. The guys he'd have to fight in the 40s would mostly be:

    Archie Moore
    Ezzard Charles
    Lloyd Marshall
    Jimmy Bivins
    Joey Maxim
    Gus Lesnevich
    Oakland Billy Smith

I would not be surprised if he lost series to Bivins and Marshall, but I'll say he wins 2-1 due to familiarity. Their ability to counter him in Marshall's case, or stand with him in Bivins' would absolutely cause him problems and in a 'fight more often than you get a haircut' era, you could lose to nobodies, let alone all-time greats. I could see him doing a number on Maxim potentially. Over 15, that gets pretty bad for Joey imo. Lesnevich would be like a lamb to the slaughter, and while Oakland Billy would have a puncher's chance; Beterbiev probably treats him like Joe Smith Jr.

Which leaves Moore and Charles. Not gonna sugarcoat it for anyone. He gets taken apart by both, very clearly.

Because the 240 pound guy was a vastly lower class opponent with little in the way of results to suggest he has a chance

Plenty of small men took his supposed big punch just fine. You have to explain away multiple guys around Beterbievs size not getting kayoes by Baer yet somehow he pulls it out against a much better fighter which seems unlikely

Those plenty of guys likely weren't moving forward towards Baer.

Again let's see Beterbiev beat even a journeyman heavyweight that size first.

Come on Moore, Bivins, Conn, Charles and Johnson all school him who else is there? I don’t remember but also… he’d be a heavyweight not a 175lber so Louis would be the one smashing him.
