No...Buddy was asking him to follow up with the left hook after he threw a right hand. Mack got caught when he lead with his left hook. Buddy wanted him to finish his combos with it.

Wrong. He did not say "Finish up your combos with the left hook". He said "Gotta give me some more left hooks baby". He said this between the 10th and 11th rounds. Start listending at 9:35. He did mention the right hand, but I didn't hear him saying anything about combinations or finishing with the hook.

Macklin went out for the 11th, threw more left hooks as instructed, and got put on his ass in the middle of throwing one.

He gives bad technical advise though.
For the life of me i could not believe he told Macklin to throw MORE left hooks.
That was exactly the punch that had him open for the straight left every time.

Im sure hes a better trainer than Atlas and sometimes he gives some ok advise but just as often he completely misjudges a situation which is just a huge detriment.

Macklin is a professional that is in his second championship fight. He probably doesn't need basic advice even if he's gone through a fundamental adjustment because he didn't get to this stage by stagnating in his development.

I think he did an effective job of employing slow, deliberate pressure without getting overaggressive was an excellent execution of an intelligent game plan, and realistically, the only one that gave Macklin a chance.

The left hook only added another dimension to his game, but Martinez always remained a step ahead, on his feet and in his mind, so Macklin couldn't keep up.

Not only is Martinez skilled, but he is very fast and hard hitting. That's a lethal combination for any fighter to be in the ring with.

My point is, McGirt was saying things that he knew were getting to his fighter and expected his fighter to execute the gameplan. The word hook could mean anything. You think McGirt is going to give away his gameplan or talk to Macklin like a child?

Why would Macklin hire McGirt after seeing Dziniziruk get beat?

If he is like me, he noticed obvious improvements in Dziniziruk's game.

At 9:35 he says "your landing the right hand but where's the hook". I took that as meaning finish off with the hook. He does go on to say "I need more left hooks baby" but I figured he was alluding to throwing it after the right.

    This :good

The fighters who lost under Buddy would have lost regardless of who was training them. He took decent boxers and got them to championship fights. What more can you ask for?
