How does DLH fare against early versions of JCC?

Yeah his chin seemed to improve as he moved up in weight. He was never hurt seriously, but it seemed he was on his ass in just about all his early fights. Could have been his lack of experience defensively too.

 

Roger Mayweather had speed,power and a great jab, good movement. Chavez kept putting pressure, landing hard shots & broke his man down. with a stoppage late. In Taylor, Chavez faced the same obsticals. except for power, and similiarily broke his man down. Taylor physically was a mess by the end. Could Oscar endure that type of pressure? Prime Chavez had a chin of granite. so Oscar would definately be in it for the long haul.

 

He could give the junior welter Chavez a tough fight beast on best.

Gets smashed to bits against the junior lightweight and lightweight one.

 

Chavez by late stoppage, DLH would fade late in the fight as he always does especially with Chavez body attack would slow him down even more.

DLH never liked it to the body and I think Chavez's body work will effect. Oscar.

Chavez at 40% showed me enough chin in his second fight with Oscar to suggest that he comfortably takes anything Oscar has to give at the lower weights.

 

I too think that even against a younger JCC, DLH still prevails. What sticks out to me is Oscar's reach advantage. That jab would always give Chavez fits. Throw in handspeed and relative power, I think that DLH can take a UD here.

 

No he wasn't.
DLH has never fought as sloppy a fight as Taylor's two fights versus Chavez.
DLH has never let go of his range advantage to go to war on the inside vs an inside fighter, something he used to be criticized for, but his punches were straight and accurate and he knew his range could set up his jab and combos. If Hoya ended up on the inside his hook kept him out of harm's way. Taylor might have been faster but hard for me to believe more skilled.

 

I think DLH was just the perfect stylistic counter to Chavez, not to mention size and power. I'm not saying Oscar was better than Chavez, but I agree with you in that he would always present a problem.

 

Give a range fighter speed and power and so long as he keeps a straight head (which Taylor didn't) I'll put my money on the fact the inside fighter will be walking into helicopter blades all night.

 

Chavez doesn't need to break anybody down here. He's the superior fighter with the better skills at any weight below 147 and DLH would be eating right hand leads.

 

Meldrick Taylor was faster than Oscar De La Hoya...

 

And doubles Oscar's work rate on a bad night.
