How does Fury and Usyk compare with the greatest fights in recent memory in terms of hype? eg. -Mayweather v Pacquaio -Fury v Wilder -Canelo v GGG -Spence v Crawford -Kambosos vs Lomachenko please let me know in the comments? I think this is the biggest since mayweather and Pac-Man.
Fury just barely beat an mma fighter making their boxing debut. This fight lost an immense amount of shine for me after that. Very deflated event. That being said its still seems prestigious I suppose. Cant decide where Id rank it though.
Im not sure this is a greater fight than ward vs kova 1 to be honest. Usyk is 37 and past his best. Fury just scraped past an 0-0 UFC fighter.
Personally, I feel it will depend on how the fight pans out - if it's a barnstormer classic with ebbs and flows and drama, I think there will be revisionist history about the hype leading up to it. Half the issue with the hype is many folks - including myself - were trying not to get too excited after multiple postponements etc, so I feel like that, and as Kirk said the poor Ngannou showing by Fury has dulled the pre-fight hype a lot. However, now the weigh-ins are done, and both fighters are there - barring a disaster - we have a fight, the hype is building very quickly. That hype could really deflate quickly if it's a tame May/Pac Fury/Klitchko affair - and chances are very high that Fury does everything he can to stink the joint out to disrupt Usyk's ryhtym and tempo - and that's not a complaint, I think that's what Fury NEEDS to do to win. If Usyk establishes his groove and rythtym then it will be a long night for the Gypsy King IMO. I am really looking forward to seeing what unfolds, as although I truly think Usyk will have too much elite skills in his locker for Fury, there are a LOT of intangibles, and it's heavyweight boxing where the fight can change on a dime. Been trying not to get hyped this week, but I'm there now in spades! Bring it on!
We will not truthfully know how this Undisputed fight compares with other previous great fights until after they have actually fought. All the trinkets and titles are on the line but this does not guarantee us a good fight, let’s just hope this fight is worthy of the Undisputed moniker and we have a clear winner free from any controversy.
it is hard for me to think heavyweights are with the other weights. Fury is not the same division as Marciano at heavyweight. The weight limit or lack of it make the disparity the biggest variable, when it should be skill and technique which matters most.
You just described how I felt when Floyd vs Manny was announced. I got an immediate immense sense of hype which died the second I realized how old both guys were. And then the fight itself was a stinker. I actually like Floyd vs Oscar, could not care less about Floyd vs Manny.
Floyd v manny was hyped to the max, overhyped Floyd v Oscar definitely had that super fight feel and it was a decent fight. No all time classic by any means, but it was decent
