He looks like 0% body fat on the scales! Hes 5'10, I just dont get how a guy that height and frame makes 130
I personally know a pro who is 5'11 and makes 135. I first met him in high school. He was 95 lbs. Some people are just naturally slim add a strict diet and work outs and they make weight easy. Its all about discipline.
More bewildering is how Lee McGregor makes bantamweight, which is an insane 118lbs. When seen next to stablemate Josh Taylor, Lee is seen to be marginally shorter in height, less than an inch. Josh Taylor stands at slightly over 5" 11". This is no knock on Lee McGregor, as he said himself, he makes the sacrifices in his weight cut. When seen on the scales, he legit looks like a shrunken skeleton, and when seen in the ring he looks much more healthier and alive. I would think he rehydrates at least 15lbs, if not more. Lee McGregor, Josh Taylor, Erol Spence and the king of all, Canelo are the ones that come to mind first in terms of weight rehydrated after stepping on the scales. How they all boil down to make the weight limit I simply do not understand, but it's apparent that they obviously do and that does mean sacrifices. Canelo is the only fighter where I have a (unproven) suspicion that he somehow cheats the scale. Probably by some way of rigged scale etc. When he steps on the scales, he physically does not even look like he weights what the scale says he does. Conversely, when the likes of McGregor or Taylor step on the scales, they do look like they made the weight limit if that makes sense. Then of course, there are fighters who literally do not rehydrate much at all if anything. Mayweather and Pac-Man being two examples.
Speaking of discipline: Hopkins was 6´1 and 168lbs in his prime. And many times was less than that on fight night. Easily made 157 for Trinidad and 156 for De La Hoya.
You think Canelo is suspicious? Really? Maybe when he was at 154, but at 168 he actually looks small in the ring. He looked a couple of weight divisions smaller than Smith. Canelo is fighting in a division where the average fighter is 3-4 inches taller than him, so he can afford to carry some muscle. Ironically Herring would tower over Canelo.
Canelo has probably hit his ceiling in terms of weight. He was 174 when competing at 154. And he doesn´t really look that much bigger now. But he does struggle to make 160.
Cenelo, who probably is the biggest re-hydrater in boxing history, has always given me an off-feeling when seeing him on the scales. At his lower weights (154 and 160) and at his higher weights (168 and 175). I have a suspicion that he has cheated the scales during his time at 160, 168 and 175, where he actually weights more than he is allowed to and when stepping on the scale, it is rigged to show that he has "made" weight when in fact he is actually heavier. This of course (providing it is true) would have given him a weight advantage over all his opponents at all the weight classes he has fought in. The opponents would all have had to make weight, whereas he would know beforehand that he can get away with missing it by 5 or 10 lbs. Maybe @CST80 OR @IntentionalButt can provide more info on how much Canelo rehydrates or if they have a feeling he cheats the scales.
The difference between what Jamie McDonnell weighed on the scales for his 'fight' with Inoue and what he weighed on fight night was insane. Something like 26 or 27llbs. As a percentage gained, that's gotta be right up there. Just made finding the canvas more painful, mind...
