I agree won't ever know sadly but i'd fancy Kovalev to stop him and Stevenson to win on points. I know people will say stop him?. But i just think Kovalev's power and ability to find a home for his punches and Hopkins shipping a few more punches nowadays i think he'd feel the full force of Kovalev's shots as much as he'd try ride them Kovalev is persistent and aggressive. Stevenson i think would take more time, and Hopkins would make it a crafty fight and i think Stevenson would have some issues breaking Hopkins down till the later rounds and i think he'd get his left hand more into play and take it on points.
Kovalev stops him but I thnk Hopkins vs Stevenson is a 50/50 fight, Stevenson's left hand isnt that accurate when hes going forward, its fast and powerful but Hopkins could avoid it quite abit, would be a interesting fight
Yeah he doesn't beat Kovalev but he could cause a bit of an upset and beat Stevenson IMO. We are not ever going to find out unfortunatly both Stevenson and Kovalev are with HBO besides i doubt Bhop at this stage wants any part of either of them
Hopkins really didn't want to face Dawson but had to IIRC because Chad was his mandatory. Fast, Agile, Rangy and well schooled boxer. Isn't what B-Hop really wanted. Fact is Hopkins likes picking his fights especially now and he's looking for smart fights that don't offer to much risk but bring the money in. He wants guys he can expose. Like Pascal who was/is one dimensional and has stamina and Ring IQ issues and Pavlik who had technical issues. And Cloud who was being outboxed by likes of Campillo and even struggling with Clinton Woods jab and that was Clinton well past prime. It's nothing different to what many other fighters do. He's smart and he knows these guys are in prime and punch hard and have ability to box as well. I'm not even sure HBO would push for these fights neither as Hopkins is now on Showtime.
Got ya! I've said this for years. Hopkins is VERY clever when he comes to picking an opponent. He is a cherry-picker, plain and simple.
FFS Hopkins will be 49 years old the next time he steps into a boxing ring, give him a break. As for how he'd do, i'd never count him out against either of these. Adonis fights in a very similar style to Pascal so Bhop might do well against him, as for Kovalev he'd have to make that a fight dirty scrappy fight to stop Kovalev from working.
