Everything always falls apart for him eventually it was just a matter of time, he beats Buster in a rematch just delays what will eventually happen for little while

It was an ass beating, And I hope that would be enough to motivate him.

You dont think there would have been some kinda round robin tourny for the title...or automatically given to Holy or current top contender.?

Buster was a one trick pony. Even a 'going off' Tyson beats him in a rematch.

I like old threads coming back round. My opinions are rarely set in stine and I change them all the time.

Right now I reckon two things happen. Tyson is less sell regarded cos it's gonna be hard to write off two consecutive stoppages as fluke. And Douglas is gonna go down with a bit more respect.

I think this is very likley, but people would have said "he is only the champion because Tyson is in prison".

you are correct Douglas did not want to fight Tyson but it kind of suited King. He knew Douglas, had him fight on his shows for some time, he knew the type of guy buster was that he would eventually take his eye off the ball. Promoting Tyson into being the biggest draw in sport was always going to force whoever was going to be champion into a showdown with Tyson. If Douglas sat there long enough he would eventually have to take the biggest money fight out and if he was out of prison and still winning that would always be Tyson.

If Don King wanted a Douglas rematch bad enough it would have been pretty easy to make Tyson look like a more worthy challenger than cruiserweight Holyfield to one of the governing bodies. After initially trying to get the result overturned I think Don was ok about Douglas being able to take the next guy. If douglas won or lost his next fight King knew the linear title could not be contested more than twice without the world screaming for Tyson to get a shot at the crown providing Tyson was still winning. As it was, by time Holyfeild was defending against Foreman the Tyson-Ruddock fights were bigger than the title.
