he cant. anything he can be taught now at this level, zhang will have an answer for. joe doesnt have the coordination to beat guys at this level, or the next higher one.
Man, Zhang was floating like a lead butterfly and stinging like a bumblebee. 280lb man and he kind of schooled Joyce who also had decent amateur experience. He was popping him with the left non stop and countering with the right hook, it was beautiful. Even did slick dips, head movemment and parries. Zhang actually showed real boxing skill even though he's giant, not just throwing with no purpose to see if anything sticks like a blind woodsman. Everything Joyce has been criticized here for was on display, slow footed plodding, no defense, arm punching, no adjustments. He's like a robot bent on just throwing no matter what happens and trying to walk through you but that won't work with some of the other giants and punchers at the weight. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Yes but some of these things he should've got by now. Zhang will hit him at will again in the rematch and it looks like a terrible idea to rematch immediately next. Wilder is a terrible match up for his as well. Fury also picks him apart & that's why he tried to do that fight & ducked Usyk. AJ is also a problem for him, so I don't know what he does from here but hopefully he recovers from the injury well.
Joyce needs to improve his defense, he has a great chin and outstanding stamina but the defense can fail him...
I'm not sure he does. This felt like a nightmare style for him rather than just a bad night at the office. Even if he wins the rematch, is he any better positioned than if he beats Whyte for example? This loss might do Joyce a favour in the short term because Wilder or Joshua might suddenly feel a bit braver and give him a fight.
Not stand like a statue in front of Zhang. Joyce isn't going to turn into a technical fighter, not at his age. However, he can make a few changes that won't be too hard to implement. Get some upper body movement to help slip the jab/straight left. Joyce doesn't have the reactions to slip a shot, but if he does a poor man's Joe Frazier bobbing and weaving (much like Derek Chisora) when closing the distance, he just may get lucky and slip the odd shot. He needs to be in perpetual motion. Once he's inside, let his shots go, tie up Zhang like Brighton Bomber said, rinse and repeat. This shouldn't be too difficult as Joe did get inside of Zhang several times during their fight. It's hardly the sweet science, but given his lack of ability, slowness and age, it's the best he's got. Going in his favour, he has the engine to do this all night long. He will take shots, but he has a great chin. Zhang hurt him, but he couldn't even knock him off his feet despite teeing off on a static Joe for 6 rounds. He just has to hope that his eye holds up. Not being a static target will help avoid this. Zhang could literally hit Joe anywhere he wanted on his face as Joe just stood motionless in front of him in punching range for large parts of the fight. Joe's tactics were terrible last night. He was taking up positions you'd expect a counter puncher with great reflexes to take up; staying just in range to tease your opponent to throw. If he does this, increasing the pressure as the rounds go by, he may be able to wear the big man down. Zhang's stamina isn't great, but Joe needs to put it on him. Last night, he largely let Zhang fight at his own pace, so Zhang still looked good in round 6. Pressure him, step back out of range or tie him up when Joe needs a breather, then put it on him again.
I actually heard Ismael Salas in the corner & he had good advice for Joyce almost at every end of rounds & he was being very clear & blunt as well, more Trainers need to follow his way.
True but they will not get the Full Glory for it even if they do beat Joyce now as that's what happens when you carry the "avoid first & fight later" mentality, Those two in particular were never very keen in fighting Joyce, especially Wilder who never seems to want to fight anyone that is actually good, crazy the defending crew he get's everywhere here.
Prior to last night he'd only fought one ''sexpaw'' so I would suggest his team try and seek out some top level ''sexpaw'' sparring partners with fast ''sexpaw'' backhands so he can learn how to avoid getting clipped so easily by them. Preferably some 6'6'' 20st slick ones with devastating power in both hands. This content is protected
All my life I didn't realize I was a "sexpaw" ! Language differences aside, how Bakole turns southpaw into sexpaw appears unexplainable.
