Whilst I think Willie is a decent prospect, watching some footage again, i seriously have my doubts as to whether he can compete with the top guys. Here is why. First prospect, a guy called Yuriokis Gamboa. Cuban amatuer gold medalist, and hands down the BEST prospect in boxing right now. Like Kickett, he is also looking at fighting in and around the super lightweight division. Keep an eye out for the unorthadox angles, crushing power and lighting combination punching.

Next lets take a look at Amir Khan. Another guy with a top level amatuer pedigree, with a siler medal in the olympic games. A fighter who once again fights in the super light weight division, and is a MASSIVE prospect in the UK, already being picked for greatness. Check out most of all the dazzling combinations and handspeed.

Now lets finally have a look at Kickett and compare. Kickett has good hand speed, and seemingly a sound technical style considering his apparently limited amatuer background. OVerall, i think against the top guys though, he doesn't have the same amatuer pedigree that he is going to need to really compete with these guys. When I look at Gamboa, Khan, Diaz, Campbell, i struggle seeing Kickett competing with these guys.

Would love to hear what you guys think, as to just how much potential he really has...

    Kickett compared to Gamboa:

I see Gamboa as somewhat of the Tyson of the SLW division. And Im talking early tyson here. Tyson had awsome footwork, side-to-side movement, ducking weaving and power-shots from great angles. Gamboa is much the same - he charges in like tyson, uses his great natural ability and speed to bamboozle his opponent before they even know that the fight has started. Much like early RJJ, Gamboa relies heavily on his reflexes for his defense, but as we've seen with many of the great, reflexes dwindle rapidly and when they do you are left open for attack from many angles. However kicket is much the same - relies heavily on his reflexes. What Gamboa has over kickett is Power. He has tremendous power compared to Cool Willie (although in his last fight Cool Willie looked about as stong as ive seen him). Willie will lose to Gamboa but Gamboa wont look as impressive as he has against the rest of his opponents. Willie will Make Gamboa work for his KO.

    Kickett compared to Khan:
From what Ive seen of Khan he is very hard to hit/tag. In most of the fights (and i say most) he hardly gets touched at all. This is a result of speed, stance and great footwork. But it is also because he hasnt faced anyone that has outstanding speed, reflexes and footwork like himself. He can rattle off good combos but I think again opponents that are hard to tag like himself (and kickett) he will not be able to get the full combos in. Once he starts to get hit more I think Khan will revert to back-foot fighting and Kickett may even win on points if they fought. But This will strongly depend on Kicketts stategy going in.

Yeah good points mate but also as u brought up they all have a LONG amatuer career and Kickett doesnt....So thinking of that just think how good he would be with a few more years with an amatuer record.

If he stays level headed and one thing those other guys are not doing is stepping up like Kickett i mean damn, Tommy Browne and now St Clair in his 11th pro fight? Thats crazy.

Will say tho he takes a risk of fighting the best of the best and he has many years to get there so he just needs to take his time and i have no doubt in maybe 2 years he will take Khan out (Khan is good BUT personally i don't rate him as highly as most do, But still very good)

    Great vids MSTR bud.

Yuriorkis Gamboa would be an extremely difficult task for Kickett, Craig Christian & his team know this.
Gamboa's speed & power is amazing, Kickett at this young age with a lack of a stellar amateur career would of course find him a difficult proposition.
Kickett's chin would be tested no doubt, but Gamboa is a mature boxer past his mid 20's now.

Amir Khan on the other hand has great handspeed & movement, but his power is no where near as explosive as Gamboa's.
Also its fair to say Khan hasn't faced 1 guy with a 50% KO record or better, his chin is a major issue.
Khan's bigger height & reach would of course be a problem for Kickett & at this stage i would slightly lean to Khan due to his bigger frame, but in a couple years as Kickett matures i could see him laying a beatdown on the overrated Khan, that i have never been sold on.

As well as chin issues Khan seems to refuse to keep his left hand high as a guard and when he steps up and faces a puncher he will get tagged. Khan seems a superb prospect though and hopefully we'll see a fight between Amir and Cool Willie down the track.

    Gamboa is an awesome fighter.

I haven't seen a better prospect than Gamboa in a while, although his hyped up way to much on the gen forum.

I watched a few of Gamboa fights lately and he seems pretty impressive.

Apart from his obvious boxing ability, the initial things that stand out for me is he's so easily able to control the fight with his natural strength and aggression and then moves quickly enough to create different angles and like a flash opens up opponents.... and they tend to feel it.

I get the feeling he would take punishment well, even though he was knocked down in his last fight. This is a massive advantage especially considering he throws caution to the wind a fraction with his defence.

These combinations would bother any fighter and IMO Willie AND Khan would face a tough task at the moment.

But I still hope Kickett develops through fighting tough competition like St Clair and gives himself a chance on the world stage when his ready.

First off, Khan and Gamboa are not fighting for titles yet. Secondly, what i am saying is that although he is good, i don't see him EVER being able to compete with these guys. That sort of amatuer career makes a massive difference. It would take him years and years to be able to fight in the ring as naturally as those guys do. I think he is taking some great steps though, especially going in against St Clair at such an early stage. Overall, i just don't think we should get overly excited just yet. The division is absolutely CHOC full of talent, and it will be a very hard one to break into.

I dont know everything about boxing but ****, that Gambo needs to get his hands up!!! i dont care how good you are, if you fight with your hands at your waist you deserve to be KOed.

Drives me nuts when boxers have low hands.

Its really hard to tell, all the guys look great, i think after Willie fights Gairy, we will know a lot more.

I havent seen the Khan vs Gairy fight? was Gairy rocked at all?

Definitely... He is in a tough division though, with a lot of very promising guys coming through at the moment.

    Couldn't agree more.

One thing with Gamboa, plenty of his shots are thrown from wide angels and a fighter that throws fast straight rights (like Kickett) could take advantage.

Kickett has plenty of time to progress and it's more than raw talent that makes a champ. Lets see what happens to Gamboa and Co. when they're put under the pump and real presure is applied.

BTW, Johnny Lewis came out and said Kickett is the best young Aboriginal prospect since L.Rose...that's good enough for me.

he looks good , he needs to improve his defense a little bit more but if he keeps training hard i think that he will have a chance of being a star in the future
