How does last night's outcome affect Calzaghe's standing?

Bernard looked great because Pavlik was taylor made for him, even at this age. He would probably beat him like that at the age of 56. Many fighters out there would still beat Hopkins now but would not beat him in his prime.

Maybe in your house. If it was that contoversial(lewis-holyfield) theyre would have been a ****ing uproar, not ***** like whining from people who Hate Calzaghe more than they like Bhop. It was close but Calzaghe shaded it.

Well with the likes of boxrec and certain fans his ranking has actually went down (under Hopkins) but with reasonable folks it has gone up.

Cal landed like 1-2 clean clear punches in the freaking fight dude. Give me a break. That was Hopkins fight even if he only threw a few punches a round he actually landed them.

    Nice post Cuchulain......:good
However Joe beat Hokins can be disputed & whinged about but the cold fact is toward the end of the fight Calzaghe had Hopkins blowing out of his arse because of his sheer workrate , His pressure & footwork tired Bern out & gave Joe the victory ...... end off !!!
I thought Pavliks youth & big clubs might see him through this one but never thought for a minute he was going to pressure Bhop like Joe did....

hopkins is a very clever fighter and he looked like he fought better against pavlik but he didnt,he just knew he couldnt fight like that against calz,so he prepares different game plans for different fighters,i think he fought the best game plan against calz but it just wasnt enough as calz is too good.

the problem with these calzaghe threads that have been popping up after the pavlik-bhop fight is that if you want to say calzaghe is a legend for beating bhop then jermain taylor must be a frickin superhero because he beat bhop when he was 2 yrs younger and he beat him twice BY ABOUT THE SAME MARGIN OF VICTORY AS CALZAGHE DID

and last time i checked, as much as i like JT, he aint no superhero

For some time now the key to beating Hopkins has been touted as being simply too out work him, as he can no longer throw as many punches. And those who think Calzaghe won by doing this are over simplifying the situation.

Hopkins averaged 39 punches a round against Calzaghe and 44 against Pavlik so the difference in workrate was not significant. The big difference was in the opponent Hopkins was facing. Pavlik was unable to get his punches off because he lacked the speed of foot and hand to catch the old slickster, but Calzaghe was quick enough to ensure he was able to cut off the ring and get in position to get his shots off.

After Hopkins/Pavlik I feel that Calzaghe has not declined as much as I had thought, it's just that Hopkins is simply still that good. This only reinforces my belief that Calzaghe is going to dominate Jones Jr.

The difference between the hopkins v pavlik and hopkins v calzaghe fight is that Calzaghe came forward throwing punches and pavlik just came forward.
