How does Lennox Lewis have a commentary job?

I agree. He's garbage. No charisma and fumbles his words too often.

 

Do you listen to boxing commentary for insight or for drama? It ain't how the pundits say it - it's only about what they say. "Boring"Jones actually breaks things more technically down then Smith, Froch, Spencer Oliver, Nelson and Macklin combined.

Lillis is not good at the technical aspect of commentating - but he is not supposed to be - he is supposed to be the point man. And he is somewhat very good at that. He knows when to pull in the technical specialist - the former boxer e.g Barry Jones and probe him with the correct questions to help the casual decipher what is actually happening mid fight and knows when not to. He is better then Adam in every sense when it comes to working commentary. I think even Hearn would do a better job then half of the Sky Sports team - they are all pretty much clueless because they are Sky Sports shillers first and pundits second.

 

Matt Macklin stands on his own with his opinion, always. He'll say it as it is. Always found him straight an to the point

 

He may be talked about as a p4p heavyweight but he's certainly no p4p talker.

Don't blame the guy for wanting to do it tho, must be hard for retired boxers adjusting to life outside of boxing and this is a way to keep them going and feeling relevant still.

 

I would have thought you could tell I wasn't taking it seriously, friend... But as you are insisting. My favourite commentators are probably the old school HBO team- Lampley, Merchant and Lederman. Kellerman is good too but I just feel like he tries too hard. He is good though. Paulie is good on the technicals

Brits- I like Woodhall, always know youre going to get a decent opinion. Nothing fancy. Carpenter was a great, RIP.

Oh and of course, Mr Hayes- his excitement levels, honesty and his comedic appeal.

Fact is heavyweight division is on fire and where the big money is coming from in the next few years.

Past heavyweights who can do the job? Not many. Not many at all. Lennox is willing to fill the boots.

He knows what he is seeing but can't verbalize it. He doesn't speak much which I think is a good thing.

 

I think Lewis is getting punchy. I've noticed in more recent interviews he gets timelines and basic facts about his own career wrong.

 

I miss HBO, especially Merchant. HBO is still the gold standard when it comes commentating.

I wouldn't mind seeing James "Smitty" Smith from InThisCornerTV involved in commentating on the bigger broadcasters.
