how does Mayweathers refusal to take the real challenges impact his legacy?

I'm no mayweather apologist or fanboy, but be honest he is already way over his prime weight.

His best weight was 130-135, and he is 36.

Historically most fighters are fairly well faded by that age.

Anything he does at this point is icing on the cake, and 154 is a weight that he doesn't operate as well at.

If Canelo wants the fight make 147 where Floyd can still move.

And yes ducking certain opponents when they were prime, Mosley, Pac, Cotto, Margarito will detract somewhat from his legacy.

 

He's got a long list of future HOF'ers, lineal champions, and top 5 divisional opponents.

 

But he can't make 130 or 135 anymore, it's questionable if he can even make 144. He's also a current titleholder at 154, it's only fair to expect him to defend against guys who are not small at the weight and past prime

 

Most fighters when they get older <30yrs old can't get back down to there prime weights.

Than again most of them at those advanced ages (by boxing standards) don't perform nearly as well either.

Floyd is no exception, he still operates well but just review his younger days and it's very clear how much more speed and activity he had.
