Norton was a WBC champion but if alphabet titles don't count. Then:
Is he top 5? No, but top 10? Yes.
I think the wins over randall cobb and boone kirkman should be #4 and #5.
By the way, Folley's win over hall of famer bob foster and Machen beating joe maxim not once but twice should be there.

All the top wins were voted on by BF24 members a year ago or so. There were arguments on a lot of guys.

    and no alphabets were counted

It definitely is. This isn’t an attempt to put down Norton but an opportunity to better see how he compares to others. I don’t think it makes the top ten although I’m not necessarily anti the call as after top seven or eight it gets close

That's exactly what it is. It's a sullen knee jerk reaction to the way the other thread is going.

You want to list guys best 5 wins as a measure and cast doubt on how good a "contender" (or whatever the heck you meant in that jumbled last sentence) he was knowing full well many of these guys had far more fights than him while ignoring all their losses.

It's openly disingenuous it really is. Wins AND losses maketh the contender not just the wins.

Sure some guys have a better win bracket than Norton but when you throw in them losses wow oh wow does it put a different complexion on things.

    Nice try.

So does Ezzard Charles drop several ranks because of all his losses? I’m sure you don’t rate Holyfield that way. Losses like wins have context. Unfortunately for Norton he doesn’t have many good wins. This should be an educational post for you. Where do you reasonably rank Norton based on these other men’s accomplishments?

    Losses have context for sure.

In a 7 year period Norton only lost to Ali and Foreman. There aren't many Heavyweights in history who wouldn't lose to them. Marciano would be beaten by both, Charles too. Walcott as well. There's some context.

Holyfield's losses around his prime certainly go against him. His losses to Bowe go against but he also had a win and Bowe was a big quality fighter. Imagine what he'd do in Marciano's era. The loss to Moorer goes against him tho it's obvious something was askew and he avenged with a stoppage. He was on the down against Lewis and these losses hold up extremely well under scrutiny.

Charles truly hit his straps post war. He had one disputed loss that was avenged brutally 12 months later. He fought anyone and everyone in that 5 year period for just that disputed loss and beat loads of great and near great fighters. It's one of the great streaks.

He was on the down by the time Walcott beat him with 80 odd fights under his belt against some ridiculously strong opposition. He had reasonable mixed results while declining and was faded by Marciano and past it thereafter so i take very little notice of anything after that.

The guys i have been pinning you on had various bad losses in their primes. Charles didn't. Huge difference.

    Please

I'd have Norton around 20-25. Charles would probably be around 15-20 and Holyfield 8-12 at a guess.
