Who did Norton beat in those seven years? See context is everything. Had he fought Lyle or Bonavena or Frazier he probably losses.

Probably loses to Lyle and Bonavena? That's a rank guess. I'll give you Frazier.

He beat Ali which is one of the bigger wins in history. It's an enormous win and can't be taken away from him. The opinion split on their other two fights is about 50-50. I've already listed his other wins and so have others.

Last time i looked Bill Caplan had Norton at #12 and Walcott at #14 so there's another recognizing they are extremely close.

I think top 20 is a huge stretch…so much so you’d have to ignore so many other guys accomplishments. The Harry Wills, Tommy Loughran, Joe Jeanette, Eddie Machen, Sam Langford, Archie Moore, Povetkin (imo), Harold Johnson, Ernie Terrell, Witherspoon, Bivins, Quarry, Zora, Bonavena, Lyle, and some others that have either better or are decently arguably better then Norton (or accomplishments). If you judge just based on what you perceive h2h ability that’s fine. I like to merge the two myself (some just do h2h or the other). I would put Walcott ahead of most of those challengers with the exception of Wills and maybe Langford. I more place Norton with someone like Byrd. Great one or two wins but the rest is very average.

Did Quarry have the skin resiliency to be champ...in practically ANY era? I kind of doubt that.

For a short list, Norton could have beaten Seldon, Dokes, Tubbs...it's possible he would have beaten Page, too (since on the whole Page fought like 1973 Ali anyway lol).

They were all champs. He might have taken Tucker, too.

    Honest list:

    1. Muhammad Ali
    2. Muhammad Ali
    3. Jimmy Young
    4. Jerry Quarry
    5. Duane Bobick

Who again did Walcott beat between the sheer mass of losses inside his resume?

He actually beat a lot of good fighters. I just don’t think there’s much difference between him and Norton in all time ratings

Unlike Norton no need to make up quality wins. Ali was once.
