Just taking Floyd's last 5 fights:

    Shane: Ortiz = better
    JMM: Ortiz = better
    Hatton: Ortiz = better?
De La Hoya: Ortiz = evenish?
    Baldomir: Ortiz = better

This is all my opinion and it's specific to welterweight and time . My point is, Ortiz on the scale of Floyd's resume is pretty good to be fair. Thinking on it, he showed some very good pressure early against Maidana and Berto and it'll be interesting to see how Floyd disrupts the pressure he brings.

I do expect a Floyd UD but I reckon Ortiz shouldn't be written off. He should make the fight entertaining for the whole 12.

    Shane: Ortiz = worse
JMM: Ortiz = worse (he may have been smaller but Marquez is a warrior with heart and skills at the end of the day)
Hatton: Ortiz = worse (tough unbeaten fighter)
De La Hoya: Ortiz = worse
Baldomir: Ortiz = About the same (not really a quality opponent but was coming off an upset win against a good fighter same as Ortiz)

This version of Victor Ortiz is better than the version of Shane Mosley that Floyd Mayweather faced, but I wouldn't consider Ortiz a better fighter.

Victor Ortiz is a better Welterweight than Juan Manuel Marquez, but again, I wouldn't consider him a better fighter.

Ortiz is better than Ricky Hatton

I'd have to still favor an effective but faded Oscar Dela Hoya. Say what you want but that fight was very close. One judge gave Oscar the nod and another had him losing by a point. Oritz isn't better than Oscar.

Victor Ortiz is light-years better than Carlos Baldimor.

Ortiz says that Floyd has a beautiful mouth. After hearing that, easy fight for Floyd. I'm talking Gatti easy.

Shane (Ortiz) Better (reason) Shanes age did show up and he may have been well over trained as he had prepaired for Berto then ended up fighting Floyd having two camps for the Floyd fight

JMM (Ortiz) Better (Reason) Marquez was just too damn small to even be a factor even though Floyd failed to honor the contracted weight agreement it wouldnt have mattered

DLH (Ortiz) Better (Reason) Ortiz is not in the later stages of his career he is also a lefty who has since movin up increased his out put

Baldimor (Ortiz) Better (Reason) Baldimors biggest wins are against Judah and Gatti of which Gatti was shot and Judah lost every major fight he has been in....

Honestly Ortiz is probably the biggest threat Floyd has faced since Castillo in reality Floyd does deserve credit for taking this fight then again so does Ortiz he didnt have to take this fight Floyd was not the mandotory he could have sat on the title made a few quick paydays then stepped up later on but he didnt want to so props to him

You have to look at the timing. People complain Floyd fights old smaller fighters and is not as dominant vs Southpaws as some of his exceptional techniques are not best suited vs lefties.
He pretty much is taking care off all the complaints and doing it off a 16 month layoff at 34. Very impressive bout. Just think he bit off more than he can chew here. Too much risk here for a tuneup.

To be honest, it's going to end up being one of the more significant wins of his whole career.
