How does Pacquiao take away mayweathers best punches?

Manny doesn't get hit with straights, he gets hit with right and left hooks... A LOT. Look at Manny's right ear after the fight. It's swollen to almost twice the size and Pac's eardrum was ruptured. Cotto killed Pac with the left hook even late in the fight.

And yes I'm going by the text book. I feel like this is the main problem with Pac fans... they think he is super human when he is just a fighter, and a predictable one at that. And how the hell is Pac going to spin Floyd? Or hit Floyd with a hook/uppercut hybrid when he'll be at a reach disadvantage against the best defensive fighter in boxing? :patsch

Manny jumps in which will make him susceptible to counters all night. If Manny can stun Floyd, he has a shot, otherwise he gets outboxed easily. And heaven help him if he can't hurt Floyd... JMM learned the hard way that not being able to hurt Floyd means he'll let his hands go more. And the fight gets a lot harder when Mayweather is actually throwing punches.

 When he was exchanging he gets caught with hooks, but those weren't leaping hooks like Floyd throws. Floyd doesn't do well in exchanges, look at the Hatton fight in the first few rounds. hatton was landing very well on the inside and guess what his reach is as short as Pacmans if not shorter. Hitting Floyd doesn't have to do with the reach it's gonna be Pacs footspeed like Hattons which will make him able to get in there fast before Floyd has a chance to move.

Pac has alot more than a punchers chance he's got a heluva shot. When Cotto was looking good early he was leading and engaging Pac. When he felt the power and was shaken he began to move. He wasn't winning just avoiding punishment. Pacs ability to close the distance is second to none.

Hatton landed basically nothing of consequence even in the rounds he won, he just got points for doing a whole lot of rough-housing and swinging. And if you watched the whole fight then I'm sure you noticed when Floyd started mugging Hatton on the inside, when he caught him with straight right hands all day long while Hatton was coming in, and when he finally KOed Hatton with a left hook while Hatton tried to close using his vaunted footspeed.

Floyd is a better inside fighter than Pac. Paquiao is very very dangerous at midrange , where he can get extension on his punches, but isn't being kept on the outside of his reach. He doesn't really look comfortable fighting right up in the other guy's chest though. Floyd can do that all day long with uppercuts, short overhand rights, and left hooks. He may not choose to, but he certainly can.

I thought Hatton was very effective the first few rounds. He even seemed to have rocked Floyd in the second when Cortez stepped in for some strange reason. Hatton lost his composure when things weren't going his way. He also leaps in hands down.

You're right that Pac doesn't look his best when standing toe to toe. His problem is when he stands there too long. But he does do good on the inside when he's on the move and doesn't have his shoulders aquared up. Floyd gets hit with hooks alot. I remember Ricky jumping in with that right hook and just tagging Floyd. Oscar was doing quite well with the jab. Judah was doing good with straight lefts.

I'm guessing it was the same punch. I know Floyd does some very hard things to predict as well.

Floyd gets hit with hooks a lot? That's news to me and probably to Floyd too. DLH ate right hook counters that neutralized his jab. Judah's left straight is much longer and faster than Pac's and he still didn't land it more than a couple of times and not very flushly.

Floyd has always appeared to do a very good job of covering up against hooks, to me, though the odd one does get through. If he's particularly vulnerable to any punch it would be long or lunging straight punches, since he tends to lean back and occasionally even backs up with his head straight up in the air. Judah caught him a good few times in the early rounds with those long left hands.

Like any boxer he is susceptible to the jab though as a southpaw I think the jab is less effective since Floyd likes to thrown that left hook as a counter.

BTW, I just rewatched Hatton-Mayweather yesterday and one Cortez settles down a bit in round 2 or 3 and lets them work a little bit more on the inside it actually turns into a pretty fun little fight.

Aye, I mostly bring it up because they both got knockdowns with variations on the same unorthodox punch in their most recent fights. Pac throws his with more ill will, whereas Floyd's is a quick single shot counter.

And even though I'm picking Floyd to win I think he'll have a great little scrap with Pac and I'm fully prepared to be proven wrong. It's boxing, they're both great, if very different fighters, and anything can happen.

Floyds defense has been great, so it's hard to pick out alot of clean shots that have landed. But really I'm saying that he's not as untouchable as some think. Different guys have had success with different things, but he has managed to adjust. I just don't know how much ad******g he will do against Pac, it doesn't seem to me he'll be able to avoid exchanges in order to get his shots off.

:goodYea the Hatton-Mayweather fight was pretty good. i though Hatton looked pretty good the first 5 or 6.

True, and this is because of Pacs gameplan to test Cotto's power and to tire him out early on. Pac figured he could handle Cotto's power and decided to lure him some more. Cotto fell into the trap. Like the common saying, you can have all the gameplans in your corner, but it changes once you get hit. Pac adjusts well in a fight, which is really underrated.

And Pac will Bang his gloves in acknowledgment and then proceed to hurt Floydy. Floyd doesnt have that KO power in his right hand:hey

Pac fights one dimensional fighters. Roach taught Manny the right hook and baby uppercut because he knew Cotto gets hit with them. Pac didn't have to adjust because Cotto is predictable.
