How Does Riddick Bowe Rank All Time? Career & Achievements?

He is my favorite fighter. I think the guy is highly underated. He would be a good opponent worth his metal for anybody from any era.

 

He had perhaps the 2 worst defenses as Heavyweight Champion in History.

 

I think Riddick Bowe was a really, really good fighter

perhaps ATG with his talent, but I think he should not be in the Hall of Fame and consider ATG due to ducking Lewis

He avoided Lewis like the plauge.

only that he fought 40 bums, 5 journeyman and 1champ (one of the worst one actually)

 

I wanted to be, but I am not a fan.

With the exception of Jorge Luis, Bowe ACTIVELY avoided fighting any bigs.

I think he only won the Evander trilogy with the help of hepatitis.

He fought some pretty poor competition.

Erosion or not, Golota beat his ass...twice.

He even though he battered Hide to the canvas 6 times or so, he looked really ugly during various points in the fight.

But most importantly, he was as chicken as anyone has ever been in boxing by throwing his belt in the trashcan.

 

He had great skills for a big HW. I never liked the guy but I was always impressed by how slick he was for a guy who looked like he'd be an ambling ape. He's yet another page in an all too thick book of "coulda been a contendas". There are hundreds of fighters that just didn't have the focus and discipline to keep their **** together enough to build a lasting legacy.

 

At his best he was among my favorite HW's to watch, as I don't typically watch them period. I genuinely think he was one of the most skilled HW's of all time in his short peak. A lack of mental balance and dedication ruined him quickly though.

 

Minus Evander, I would take Vitali's resume over Bowe...barely.

If Vitali can get some more wins, I would take Vitali, period. But I have a feeling Vitali is done after the Gomez ruling.

 

Bowe can be given little respect due to the stupid stunt of putting the WBC belt in a trash can. Everyone knows he wanted no part of Lennox Lewis. LL took on everyone willing to fight him. Bowe will never be more than a footnote in heavyweight history.

PS. Is Riddick short for ridiculous??

 

Bowe was a very good heavyweight, but was some way short of a great one IMO. He shirked the fight with Lewis as he knew he would lose, he is not in the same league as the Lewis's, Tyson's and Holmes's. Next level down. His performances against Golota were just awful, and count against him whenever he is ranked or rated.
