How Does Robberies and Giving Gifts Protect Fighters Marketability?

When a robbery happens it's not like the majority of fans do not realize the fighter getting the decision really just lost. Is there a psychological effect where people will subconsciously take in what the judges ruled knowing it's outright wrong? We seen it happen many times before where shitty scorecards convince people, who have an attachment to one of the fighters, that the fight was close. Fans may talk out of their asses about how fair and objective they are, how compubox and refs mean nothing to them, but they will try to rationalize out and justify the shitty ref jobs if it favors their fighters.

 

Because 3 months later, casuals will forget the robbery but the 0 will still be there.

Worse than that. Three months later 2/3 of the people on this website will buy a ridiculously hyped ppv featuring that same fighter.

 

It helps with the casual fans but it ruins the image of most fighters whose main audience is hardcore fans. The robbery becomes the focus and overshadows what the fighter legitimately accomplishes, which in a way is unfortunate. But some backlash is to be expected, even if the fighter themselves isn't the one responsible.

 

Because casual fans look at boxrec and say, oh he beat that guy 116-112 on all cards. Easy win. As time goes on more and more people look at records rather than the actual fights.

 

The future generations might not even know about the robbery... nobody to pass the story on

 

Every true boxing fans knows about the robberies and doesnt forget them, for casuals and boxrec fans robberies doesnt exist!

 

That used to be the case, but with more and more fights being uploaded to YT et al, hardcore fans can still remind casuals that a robbery did indeed take place by posting them to sites like this. :deal

That being said, there are fans who will go to almost any length to defend decisions that go in favor of their chosen fighter...No matter how outrageous the verdict might be to more objective viewers. Sometimes, you're just not going to be able to change someone's opinion, no matter how rational and justified your argument might be.

 

We're underestimating how smart casual fans are here. I watched Juan emmanuel III with quite a few casuals. They all saw that Juan schooled him.

Only a week later fans of the fighter that profited from the robbery (or haters of the losing fighter) will claim it wasn't a robbery at all and they scored it clear for "their man".
