What does the original Sugar Ray have to do against a boxer (Ray Leonard) who is slightly longer and a tad bit faster?

I don't think an inch and a half reach is going to worry him much. At 147 he is lightening fast himself and has the power advantage.

Ray Robinson never faced anybody who was remotely as skilled or talented as Leonard. Most of Robinson's wins were against slow plodding Italian and white fighters. Sugar is another one of these old time fighters that get built up because they fought back in the day. There are so many talented welterweights up to middleweight today regardless of race that Robinson would even win a belt.

SRR has the tools to more than hold his own against SRL. The real question might be could SRL be successful against SRR's opposition, with no JrMW Division, and WW''s having to fight MW's regularly to create interesting fights and make money.
If Duran could reach SRL, then Rocky Graziano might knock SRL out, if SRL had the huevos to fight him.

So let me get this straight. You are saying a one deminsional alleged mob protected fighter like Graziano could do what AtG fighters like Duran, Hearns, Benitez, And Hagler and some very goods like Kalule, Lalonde, and Norris couldnt do knock Leonard out?. And you question Leonard would actually step in the ring with a 2nd rate at best fighter like Graziano? This was about Leonard and not Mayweather jr. You do realize That?

For Graziano, it only takes one. Ask Tony Zale. Zale would put a beating on SRL worse than Duran did.

Yeah he pulled a Jack Johnson in a way staying away from guys like Charley Burly and other murderers row fighters......he IMO beats SRL because he was better all around.... LaMotta was slicker more like a Toney type than Chuvalo in some regards but not quite as good as Toney but more pressure with less power caused by brittle hands. SRR was old school tough and you can't beat his welterweight record he lost once to LaMotta in 6 fights

I don't think Leonard was faster than Robinson. Unless were judging the version of Sugar Ray who fought in the mid to late 50s. Prime Sugar Ray Robinson was at Welterweight where he ran an incredible record. He never lost to a Welterweight. I do think Leonard poses a challenge for anyone.

I believe the fight would play out like Norris/Leonard with SRR playing the role of Norris. Probably more competitive but Robinson had so much firepower and he was explosive at 147. Picture a Roy Jones with more of a warrior`s mentality and a better chin.

I agree. Those slow Italian white guys like Henry Armstrong, Kid Gavilan, Tommy Bell and George "Sugar" Costner. They just a bunch of pasty white bums.

So did T.Hearns, who would've destroyed Graziano, and prime Leonard took his best and walked him down.(Hearns) And if we did ask Zale, he would tell you, " I was 2-1 in fights with Graziano and I also knocked him out in both of my wins... And of course its your opinion those fighters would destroy Leonard. But in my opinion you have an agenda and living in a fantasy world if you truly believe that.

Leonard has better outside mobility and lateral movement.
Robinson could maneuver better in the pocket and the inside, and was better at positioning, and finding angles.

Robinson would be closing the distance, overpowering Leonard on the inside.
Leonard would make a very competitive fight of it, but would be outpointed by Robinson who stays busier and lands more throughout the fight.

The Robinson we see on film is a middleweight first off so he'd ne faster at welterweight. The next part is the film is in black and white not in real time. So he was faster than what you see in the old films.
