Surely we all agree that we have to be as fair and open minded in our assessments as possible! We shall find some type of middle ground, if we take our time with responses, try not to have any bias at all in considerations and, when possible, try not to assume someone's intent. The ability to be mature & communicate with both good sense and good taste wins a lot of points, in my book!

Above all, always be kind & 'do unto others'.

Having said that, anyone who disagrees with me sucks and DKSAB.

horses for courses. 15 rds in 3rd gear leaves no room for an extra ounce of luggage. take a look at the different pace fighters fought at back then. and thats for 15 rds. fighters today routinely gas in 6 rds, in 2nd gear...with 2 fights a year.

Why do fighters gas more, but fight way less? A lot of the old guys fought in smoky clubs too.

its the prep work. have you ever seen a professional top level pit bull in pit condition? its the same principle. they arent muscled up, they are stripped bare to their genetic base. shredded down to properly nourished functional tissue. thats peak conditioning for extended combat. you conditioned 15 rd fighters by roadwork, punching drills for extended periods of time, and properly paced sparring.
modern fighters arent conditioned for the pit.

I have no idea what you mean, both all-time and heavyweight punches thrown records belong to fighters in the past five years despite having a handicap of three rounds vs 15 round fighters.

watch some fights to get an idea. it also helps train your eye. study the pace, the lulls between punches. the amount of ground being covered. you dont need an imperfect count system to tell you what is happening in the ring. the fights dont happen on paper. its on screen where the punches are being thrown at midrange, or while half making out and feeling each other up.

    Do they really gas more?

^^The only case I can think of a modern fighter gassing that badly that quickly is Zhilei Zhang, but he was dying of kidney failure and weighed 280 pounds, and he still didn't fall over.

Cleveland Williams, Earnie Shavers, a bunch of guys. Just nobody remembers their performances where they gassed 50 years later.

The issue is that when watching fights, people tend to only watch those known for being entertaining and those are often the only ones that are preserved well many decades later to this point.

i started wanting to learn, and learning, about boxing back in the 70s. i would pick trainers and boxers minds as much as i could. ive picked the brains of world champions and top trainers, up through the early 90s. i dont know how much training has changed, havent been in a proper gym in decades, but overall ive noticed it in the ring, while watching. there is more emphasis on power and short bursts of energy, than an extended plan of attack. nobody trains to outlast their opponent.

I’m usually fair, open minded and objective as I have an appreciation for old and new generation of fighters. I do like discussing things in a civil manner but if I did come across as bias and snarky then I apologize. I respect everyone’s opinions and have no intention of getting into long drawn out arguments and insults.

Let’s keep it civil and respectful!

I’m actually a happily married guy who is blessed with what I have in life with a nice job and great family and friends by my side so you don’t have to worry about me. I’m fully stable. :)

This whole thing is sh()ts and giggles to me, I don’t take any of our banters seriously. I always said that I respect you as a poster and I still do. Its been entertaining taking shots at each other but I’d rather not keep dragging this down, it seems like we’re beefing but honestly you’re cool with me. ;)

Would be nice to be more open minded though. Nothing wrong with comparing old fighters to new fighters.

Of course you respect me, bro. I owned you, so you recognize that I am a force to be reckoned with. If some dude completely and comprehensively thrashed me, I'd be forced to respect him.

Punch output does not = higher tempo, more energetic bouts.
