He was very badly injured vs Marshall, and that JJW punch was glorious.

Charles had 9lbs on Burley in 1 fight, and 7 in the other.

Langford eventually walks Charles onto a knockout punch

This is extremely tough. I can see Sam beating Ezzard, but Charles would be the best fighter he ever fought at that weight.

Only one man ever did that to Charles, and Charles beat him twice (arguably 3 times) in turn.

Gans is arguable, but you can argue that too.

At the same time, Langford would be the best puncher Charles ever fought. Even better than Moore in my opinion and that's saying a lot.

Better than Marciano? I doubt it. Hell, I reckon Satterfield was in that ballpark too.

I meant better, not harder. Satterfield definitely wasn't as good puncher as Langford in my eyes and Sam was more versatile than Rocky - better and longer jab, better counter puncher, better hook. That's my opinion and of course you can disagree.

Meh, to me it doesn't overly matter, anyway. Plenty of people managed to escape Sam's power (I know plenty didn't as well) and Charles was better than all of them.

I think he'd be able to use his range and slow things down, before eventually winning. I'd be surprised if he stopped Sam, but I'm still surprised to this day that he stopped Moore so who knows? I'd pick Charles over Johnson too BTW.

It's basically a whimsical pick here, since Langford did so much crazy stuff in his career, I'm not convinced there's anything he couldn't do. I just wish a lot more of it was on film.

Langford had a higher boxing IQ then Charles in my opinion and hit much harder
