take massive shots from both klit's and never goes down but get's dropped by the much lighter hitting McCline.. I have always said it was because peter suffered from a ruptured eardrum in sparring leading up to that fight with McCline

Peter's chin is not ruined, he took the best Maskaev and Vitali had to offer and never went down.

As far as McCline is concerned, the guy knocked down Briggs, Brock, Bryd, and Grant. He does have power, Chris Bryd went on record as to saying that the punch McCline landed on him was the single hardest punch he ever felt in the ring, he said he was knocked out until he hit the canvas and that woke him back up. Thats saying something, the guy has felt the punches of Tua, Vitali, Wlad, and Golota, before that point in Novemeber of 04 when they fought.

WLAd did not damage Peter's ability to take a punch...ViTKLiT hits harder...how come Peter wasn't falling all over the place if the lesser brother already destoyed him...??? Then the more powerful one can't even knock him down after that destruction...

    ...please.

Btw, Peter's best fight was a few fights removed from Wlad, in the 2nd Toney bout. The Wlad fight benefited Peter's career, and did not harm it.

The ear drum excuse never made sense to me. Peter was too reckless and careless in the McCline fight and he took a punch he didn't see nor did he expect McCline to hurt him at all. Please remember that Peter kept bragging in almost every interview about how he took punches from Wladimir without much trouble, so his confidence in taking a punch was over the limit and the way he charged in explains it. Wonder why he wasn't dropped again despite taking serious shots from McCline after the knockdown?, he wasn't too careless after it and was more cautious.

Against Vitali you can easily see he was too cautious from the start and his choice to not charge in reckless was enough proof as soon as the bell rang.

Maybe it was more on how the punch landed rather than simply how hard the punch was.

Toney never had any serious power, everyone knew that. It's the McCline and even Maskaev fights that proved he can't take a punch anymore. His lack of affective aggression against Vitali is another good proof, Peter knew that if he charges in and takes a bomb he doesn't see coming against Vitali it can be lights out, he was clearly discouraged from round one after having to deal with some punches.

Because it';s the HW division and everyone has power?

James Toney took shots from Hasim Rahman and John Ruiz and was never hurt. He was hurt by Fres Oquendo.

Anyone in the HW is a threat to KO anyone.

Although Vitali definitely does NOT hit harder than Wlad, I don't think that Wlad ruined Peter's chin either. Chin's just don't get "ruined" like that, just like Tito didn't ruin Vargas' chin. That **** is silly.

On to the topic... it's just the circumstances of the fight. You don't have to be the hardest puncher to put someone down. Plenty of guys get knocked down on lesser shots than shots that they have taken standing without a problem. It's a matter of seeing the punch coming, timing, placement, ect... it's not just all about power.

BTW... Wlad wasn't fully committing on most of his shots vs Peter. Wlad was still in the transition from one style to another. Trying to find his groove, and wasn't really sitting down on his punches like he normally does. You could even see when Wlad really hurt Peter in the 10th round, he did so while exchanging left hooks, blocking/slipping Peter's and throwing his own as he was bouncing back away immediately afterwards.

Good point. But you forgot one BIG one. Ike Ibeabuchi. I can't beleive Byrd would say that McCline's shot was worse than Ike's.
