with a past prime over the hill 40 year old Povetkin, how do you go life and death for a draw... (although I did think Hunter did enough to win, BARELY) i could also see some thinking Sasha should of won if they called that knockdown in the 6th...

but either way, regardless of who should of won...how are you so skilled and yet you struggle with a 40 year old dude?

Povetkin has an excellent arsenal and punch selection, which can somewhat negate slickness.

In all fairness, I think a small majority think Hunter won it.

A “past prime” Povetkin is still Povetkin. He packs power and is always dangerous. What his recent come from behind win over Whyte shows is that there is always that danger from him.

Simply put Hunter fought a little to cautiously in my opinion not wanting to risk a career stalling, ego shattering knock out from Sasha. He left the ring with lots of people thinking higher of him which in and of itself is a win and can say something a lot of pros can’t... I went twelve rounds with him.

Povetkin is criminally undderated; packs KO power (as Whyte found out) tough as nails and has the best resume at present after AJ, Fury and Hunter.

I had the povetkin vs Hunter fight 7-5 to Hunter when I first watched but upon viewing a second time i had it Hunter winning 8-4.

Well, mostly because Hunter is not a true heavyweight, it’s a argument that Povetkin is not either but the only guys that did beat Povetkin was full size heavyweights. Hunter have done good at heavy so far but I don’t think he’ll gets much further than this because of his lack of size and discipline.

As said above because Povetkin is class. Even the 40 year old one. To copy others he’s only lost to two comparative giants and sparked Whyte who was probably rated at least top 5 in the division by almost anyone

You mean the same Povetkin that's beaten everyone he's faced except for WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO and ANTHONY JOSHUA? That one? The horror.

Even the way past his best 40 y/0 60% Povetkin was one of the top and most dangerous HWs on the planet. IIRC, he was rated #6 by The Ring at the time and for some inexplicable reason they had Old Man Ortiz ranked above him which is downright criminal. Povetkin beat Hughie Fury on UK soil in his previous fight and was beating AJ in his backyard in his fight prior to that one before making a stupid mistake and getting caught with a silly shot someone of his experience shouldn't have. Granted the version who fought Hunter was even more declined than the one who fought AJ but nevertheless he was still a very dangerous customer and worthy of his lofty ranking. That war against Hunter took a lot out of Povetkin and he looked every day of his near 41 years of age against Whyte. He was way past his prime when he fought AJ but still very formidable, whereas against Whyte he looked like an old man albeit admittedly one who still packed hydrogen bombs in those fists of his.

When there is a dominant long term champion in a division most of the time that division is perceived as weak and that is true most of the time.. Wlad Klitschko long reign is criminally underrated especially considering Pulev and Povetkin are still around getting title shots and having success against other champions..

I'd say because Povetkin is excellent and better than Hunter (also AJ and others), but age differences even things out.
Povetkin still beating (or even being highly competitive) with these prime rated guys shows how good he is/was.
People will miss him when he's gone.

He was unlucky not to have gotten one of the proper belts after Fury scattered them. He could obviously have won the fights AJ/Parker did to get their titles. And Povetkin may well have beaten AJ back then and so kept the belt for a while. But everyone knows how the promoter/network politics work. So in the records Martin and Parker will go down as proper world champs, while Povetkin will be considered a nearly man.

Povetkin is extremely schooled and throws technically class punches, hes also tough and strong. i thought povetkin gave hunter a bit of a boxing lesson in the 2nd half of the fight, but hunter showed his mettle and landed some huge leather himself. it was a good fight.
