No he wasnt shot, shot is when a fighters damaged goods from taking too many punches. Weight drained and past prime YES. But it was still a legit top fighter having given Mayweather a tough fight a year before (at a more comfortable weight)

How quickly we forget DLH was supposed to blow out Pacquaio who was giving up loads and loads of weight and height

It's true, I don't remember many lucid picks for Oscar outside of Stonie's.

    Of course I would.

Just because I prefer the old days of boxing, it doesn't mean to say I'm going to criminally underrate the fighters of today.

I rate Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mosley, Morales, Barrera, Mayweather, Marquez, Lopez, Whitaker, Lewis, Holyfield, Jones, Toney & co. highly. If they don't feature on a list, it's only because they haven't retired yet.

I just rate them a bit more appropriately than 'some' fans, who could be accused of being biased against the old days. No, Shane Mosley was not a greater lightweight than Carlos Ortiz.

Well actually i didn't forget that power..i know full well what the viewpoints going around prior to the fight were, i had my own thoughts on it as well, but after actually watching the fight i drew my own conclusions as to the worth of him at that point in his career. For all intents and purposes he was a finished fighter around that weight...shot..nothng left to give..whatever you want to tag it as.Shot to me is when a fighter is a shell of what they once were, whatever the reasons.

Nobody should be basing their conclusions on any fight solely on what the thoughts during the buildup were. After all the reason the viewpoint of DLH blowing him out, was quite heavily based on Oscar being say at least 70% of what he had been in earlier years at those weights, or more realistically, as good as he was for the Mayweather fight.Neither of which was the case.He had about as much left as Ali did for the Holmes fight.

Yeah, I do actually. I think his mobility on the outside combined with that left hand would be enough to hoover up enough points. Buchanan isn't getting stopped, that's for sure, he's got the neccessary toughness and skills I think.

I never quite understood all that "Oscar will kill Pac" hype that was going around either. People writing posts and articles claiming it was going to be a big con, and Pacquiao had no chance. Because Oscar was so much bigger. I never really got that.
There were plenty saying Ruiz would murder Jones Jr. a few years back too .......... it's all nonsense based on the assumption that bigger is better.
People overlooked, or outright dismissed the fact that DeLaHoya had been past his best for years. And Ruiz was an ordinary heavyweight.

Yeah i tend to agree.Good fight though.

And before anyone thinks i'm anti Pac, i'd have major doubts about Buchanan beating a solid welter like Cotto.

Yea moving up in weight and skipping 2 weight classes is easy, happens all the time. Who did you pick? The vast majority picked DLH to be too big and stop Pacquaio because the size difference was massive and DLH is a very good big man who just went close with Mayweather

I had the first one a draw and the second one to Marquez by a point.

    Nice one.

Think i might need to score the rematch again now. I've kind of warmed to the thought that Pac 'beat' Marquez though.

Yeah but you cant really compare ODLH to Ruiz. ODLH was still performing pretty well, and did somewhat well against Mayweather. Pac was unproven really and looked shaky in getting knocked down and out in the past, so there was a lot of questions about how he would deal against a bigger stronger guy even if ODLH had somewhat slipped. He still had speed and size.
I think after this win against a solid world class welter, he has to be legitimately considered up there with the big boys. A fight with Mayweather will certainly cement it.

I thought Pacquiao would win, and should win (assuming the fight was going to be a real one).
I hadn't seen Oscar DeLaHoya beat a real impressive opponent in years. I thought he was finished some time before he faced Hopkins actually (and that was 4 years or more before the Pac fight).

The DeLaHoya-Mayeather event (you cant really call it a "fight") was a joke. A money-making exhibition, two pretty-boy multi-millionaire businessmen having fun at our expense. A complete joke. You know it.
