A former flyweight winning a title at 147 is every bit as unique as any of the achievments you have listed.

As good as a former Bantamweight beating the consensus #2 WW of all time?

Is that like calling Duran a former bantamweight? I think it is.

In all fairness, Pacquiao was a world champion at fly, and Duran wasn't a world champ till lightweight. I'm not saying Pacquiao's achievement is better, but I do think it merits inclusion with the others on Manassa's list.

Oh yeah, he won that ABC belt. The WBC infact. Then he got knocked out.

He was still developing. Not like he matured at flyweight and then bulked up.

Probably. Although as has been pointed out, Pacquiao has the strap at the weight.

Is it unfair to pac that my main feelings after this fight are the continuing sense my masterful analytical prowess;) is spot on regarding Cotto's ability.

I was unsure about this fight beforehand.Pac is an excellent fighter, but probably a natural junior lightweight\big feather, albeit one who would alwyas have had the build for some nice weight jumping even in the old non jr class days.So beating any world level jr welter\welter is to be commended and no mean feat, even if it's a fighter who most see as just "decent".

ON ther other hand, Cotto if he is who he has been hyped as these past 3-4 years,(which is a very good to excellent welter champion...a notable P4P sort of fighter)..well he should be a real solid favourite in my eyes.Trouble is i never saw this Cotto i was being told i should be seeing.I saw a solid serviceable world class welter who was one of the best in a weak talent starved division(not to be confused with non-competitive).

i like him and enjoy watching him fight, but i've never had any real faith in him as being a notable talent.I've never thought twice about picking good contender types like McCrory, Ernie Lopez, armando muniz or Colin jones over him(if i thought they had the stylistic edge) when those matchups came up, as i always saw in him a fighter a notch below that level anyway.

So you can imagine i didn't have much faith in him justifying the level of attention he gets in this fight, with Pac looking strong and settled at junior Welter.

I thought Pac kept up that level of performance in this fight and it came as no surprise when it was more than enough.Pac is a beast of an athlete and i'm sure despite me never rating Cotto too highly, i'm sure his size advantage would be enough to beat a decent number of excellent\great feathers and junior lightweights, that i might even pick over PAc at those weights. So respect has to be given. It's an accomplishment indeed.

McGrain, check out Ebihara's fights with Kingpetch if you want to see a fighter doing a similar thing with footwork\powershots as Manny does. He's a lot like a more technically efficient, but less physically gifted version of today's Manny. The fights with a correct textbook fighter like Pone make an interesting companion to the Pac Marquez fights.

Well I guess he started at 119, which would make him a Super Bantam technically.

I think any overrating or criticism of Pacquiao (which is unjust really, but it's the zealots' faults) stems more from Cotto, who is very good, but not great. He's not a top fifteen at the weight. Pacquiao hardly beat Kid Gavilan for the title, although I'm sure he'd have a pop if he could.

    :good

I've seen only the tiniest of snippets (i do believe on YouTube) and i'd say he was a good deal slower than Manny and perhaps less impressive overall?

    Nice observation on Pone/Juan.

It was a good debut although nobody knew it at the time - Mendoza would later be a world contender.
