Only around 200 pounds, but boy could he punch with both hands! That left hook that put the tough Benton out flat on his back was tight and powerful.

I am of the firm belief that prime Coetzer would beat Wilder and I'd put money on it.

Is that the same guy that Bruno an Bowe beat, he seemed to be a tough old sod.

Half of today’s contenders would faint at the mere sight of his magnificent mustache.

Check out his boxrec page. A little tweaking, and he's got a Rollie Fingers 'stache.

If GF and his team picked Coetzer as an opponent, Coetzer either couldn't take a punch, couldn't punch, couldn't fight, or wasn't training. That Foreman and his team were willing to fight Coetzer tells everything we need to know about Coetzer.

He was a tough guy and a decent fringe contender. But I don’t think he’d go terribly far today. His style was very physical and that doesn’t mix well with bigger, stronger, hard punching men.

Coetzer was never considered a puncher.

You should tell that to Benton. That's a brutal one punch KO.

I hope you bowed and genuflected when invoking the name of the great Rollie Fingers.

Coetzer could definitely take hell of a punch. Frank Bruno needed multiple illegal shots and dirty tricks to soften him. And Bruno was not only a hard hitter, but an extremely dirty fighter who scored few early KOs with dirty blows against very durable fighters like Jesse Ferguson and Mike Evans. Coetzer also showed his chin and durability vs prime Bowe and vs hard-hitting Du Plooy who scored plenty cold KOs.

The guy was extremely tough and he always came to fight in great shape. He absolutely could fight.

I think the reason why Foreman picked him was that Coetzer took 2 back-to-back losses in 6 months prior to Foreman. And these were really hard and damaging fights, and as it's been mentioned, he was hit by some illegal shots and plenty of legal punches and eventually stopped in both

One swallow does not a summer make.Michael Nunn scored a pulverizing ko ,Wilfredo Benitez did too against Hope, neither were considered bangers.

I'm only telling you how he was perceived during his career

Look, I liked Coetzer,he was an extremely courageous and tough fighter, but he was not known as a puncher .
I was ringside when Bruno beat him at Wembley.
I'll post on any public thread whenever I like.
Now how about you cut out the uneccessary personal ****?

It's incredible how you can type so much without ever saying anything of actual substance. I've noticed that's more or less your MO on here over the years. Spare me.

I'm not getting into it with you , your biggest contribution to this forum was regaling us with tales of your training prowess in you garage, when your neighbours would gather round and watch in awe and wonderment.
