How does this Super Middleweight tournament go

Hell of a thread. Really no wrong answers, although we already knew what certain posters would say just by reading the title.

Every time I write a prediction, I look at it and change a couple. Most likely I see Toney taking the crown.

Some interesting style match-ups, and with the exception of Jones against Ward and Eubank, you can make a pretty strong argument for the fight turning out differently. Realistically McClellan is the only geniune threat to Jones winning the tournament.

 

Carl Froch vs Sven Ottke - Froch MD (outside of Germany)

Roy Jones vs Gerald McClellan - Jones KO (McClellan always nice to watch but less productive)
Chris Eubank vs Lucian Bute - Bute TKO
Joe Calzaghe vs James Toney - Toney SD (almost a draw)
Andre Ward vs Nigel Benn - Benn MD (dirty fighter this Benn)

Roy Jones vs Lucian Bute - Jones UD (Bute down 1-2 times)
James Toney vs Nigel Benn - Benn MD (Toney angry at decision)


Lucian Bute vs James Toney - Bute SD (Toney less motivated after the semifinal)

Roy Jones vs Nigel Benn - Jones TKO (Benn's favorite loss)

 

Prime Jones Jr. wins it all.

People like to bring up his **** competition but were they any more **** then the guys lucian BUTE is fighting or the guys at 168 now?

Roy Jones JR in his prime was the alpha gorilla silverback rhino dog and he had too much of everything for anybody on that list.


Roy Jones Jr was damn untouchable from 168- 175

I saw once he DINGO punched someone.. I dont give a **** if you are a journeyman or a ATG, being DINGO punched takes a lot of skills.

Jones literally dingo slamed that guy's face.

Roy Jones Jr was the most gifted boxer of any generation. He is as close to ****ing super man as you can get without reading the comic books during his prime.


Also rip fuel is not illegal steriods you mutts.



With all that being said, Nigel Benn will KO Roy in 2 rounds.

Roy was scared of nigel. But only Nigel can beat Roy.

 

Ward is a great fighter no doub. That said, Jones Eubank and Benn and McLellan had the kind of KO Power and doggedness to walk through ward and ko him I think. Not waying the would but definitely saying the could.

Well i doubt Calzaghe would want to punch with Toney, cuz youu saw how that worked for Nunn, but yea, I can see a Roy Jones-esque performance for Cal, no way is he stopping Toney though, and its still somehat of a toss-up, but i still favor Calzaghe 65-35

 

Im surprised so many think Toney could beat the best SMW ever.

Toney looked lucky against Tiberi with the pressure he applied.
Toney couldnt beat S Williams at first ask
Toney was run close by Sosa and R Johnson to SDs
Toney was behind against Nunn before the finish and being out boxed.

None of those fighters are as accomplished at SMW as many of the fighters on Calzaghes resume.

Just look at the level Toney was fighting at at SMW

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins,had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles,went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.

and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was alledgedly weight weakend, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.
