They seen Usyk hurt v Gassiev. He was definitely hurt but boxed his way out of it excellently. Bellew probably believes he hits harder than Gassiev and can finish better. He may be right in those respects. I see this fight as 90/10 in Usyk's favour. If you give any man a 10% chance of becoming undisputed cruiserweight champion while making millions he's going to take it. The gameplan is simple: Land one big shot then jump on him. Retire undisputed cruiserweight champion. Bellew will jab to try and keep Usyk off, but he'll be conserving energy to land that big right hand. If it lands, wait and see, Bellew will jump on Usyk like he's never jumped on anyone before. He can finish in those situations and that's why I give him a slim chance here.
I agree Bellew will try and keep it tight until the opportunity arises then go for it. I feel the left hook maybe the shot. Then again we both might be wrong and Bellew might try making it a shoot out from early doors lol. Be a great fight and big props for Bellew coming down in weight to take it.
I wonder if there is school of thought to run at Usyk like mad man, close his distance down, wrestle take away the length of his punches and don't let him breathe and try and land something big. Similar to the finish against Mkubu i guess. Not Coldwell's style as Twenty has already mentioned but I just wonder if that might be something they consider. If Usyk take center of the ring and he's got room to move it's going to be a long night especially if Bellew can't get anything going.
90/10 in Usyk's favour sounds about right. Feels like a big fight tbf - atmosphere will be fantastic.
I think Bellew's legs are actually OK. With the crowd cheering every time he slips a punch, in range or not, he could share the early rounds or at least give Team Uyk the impression they might have lost the round. Some kidology and decent counter jabs/1-2s are well within Tony's ability and perhaps Usyk will feel he has to press the issue. If a war/trading breaks out, that evens the fight to a 50-50 IMO. Not likely but there are routes to victory for Bellew here.
Ive never wanted a result in boxing any more than Bellew KO Usyk, hopefully by a really lucky punch in the dying seconds of the 12th while 11-0 behind on the cards. I can actually see a few of the "hardcores" keeling over as Bellew gives his post fight speech "You all wrote off the fat kid from Liverpool...."
Like ive said before I'm convinced they have seen something in Usyk that they are planning on exploiting. Idk what it is or if it will pay off but they seem very confident and have wanted this fight for a while. Bellew does know his own limitations, so it'll be interesting to see what the plan is.
It is an intriguing fight but in a way it shouldn't be - surely 2 fights in the last two years against an injured shot Haye & then a shell of injured shot Haye are not good prep for Usyk
It's obvious, isn't it? He got to face Usyk (or the winner of the CW tournament) without having to run the gauntlet. And he got to face Haye for millions in the process. Add to that that his options are limited. What is he going to do, face AJ? Povetkin? Haye again? Nah. He is out of options, that's all. And if he wins? It's absolutely huge for his resume. His is in a win-win situation. Lose? Earn a boat load and a "You gave it your best, kid. Nobody expected you to win anyway". Win? Earn millions UPON MILLIONS with possibly a rematch or a crack at AJ/Wilder/Fury AND have his resume sky rocket. Also, Tony having a good boxing brain and being able to put his plan into action are two completely different things. It's one thing seeing an obvious, physical decline in a guy like Haye and exploiting it. It's another seeing a flaw in a master like Usyk and exploiting it. People say Usyk gets hurt, by who? Gassiev punches harder than Bellew could dream of and he didn't dent Usyk. Huck is a huge banger, did nothing. Breidis didn't get it done. Who has Tony wiped out at CW to warrant such a tag of being a big puncher? Break it down... Besides Haye, in terms of being a name, being a big scalp for Tony, Tony has beaten absolutely NOBODY of note. Usyk is THE best boxer north of 147. End of. This is nothing but a well thought out, calculated gamble. It's a great move by Tony's team.
I think Bellew power is getting a bit underrated. Regardless of Hayes legs being done bellew dropped him flat on his face and Haye has shown a good chin at heavyweight.
