I agree with almost all of this. Except it is possible that Ali stops an exhausted Tyson or gets the TKO. Once note need be a huge puncher for that. Especially since Ali at his best threw high volume punches with like Tyson, excellent accuracy.
No they weren't, but: - neither fought a properly prepared prime Tyson. and - they still hit harder than Ali, especially Douglas.
Tyson at his best has a puncher's chance against anybody who ever lived, IMO for what's that's worth, and any of you are free to figure that's not much!!!
I think Ali only started really sitting into his right in the 70s, and then mostly just when the other guy was either exhausted or in a perfect position. I always got the feeling that in the 60s he was hesitant to step too much into his punches, because his foot speed and placement was so often important to him, and he didn't want to upset his balance.
Well put, I agree! although sometimes he did to finish a fight, like against Williams in the Astrodome. Great to watch in high definition on youtube!
You guys always forget there was an other man besides Banks, Cooper, Frazier and Weppner: Alan Hudson. And it was also done by a left hook: This content is protected Hudson is the guy in the white trunks, Ali in the dark trunks.
Mike Tyson is a ridiculously dangerous fighter in his absolute prime. Even shot/past it he would quickly dispose of guys that went many rounds with other very good fighters. For example, Lou Savarese. I can see him knocking Ali out. He's much faster and more powerful than Fraizer.
That's because we are all talking about the pro ranks. Nick Wells stopped Larry Holmes twice in the amateurs but Holmes and Ali obviously ended up vastly different beasts in the pro ranks.
Also Wepner stepped on Ali's foot when he connected, before the knock down. Although unintentional, it caused Ali to go down. I do not consider that a legitimate flooring.
some are citing fights from both guys when neither were in their prime. That isnt fair to either fighter. In these match ups, BOTH get to be on their best night. Therefore, going by the laws of the internet and boxing forums, i simply cannot see Tyson knocking Ali out. Thats not to say he does not have any success, especially the early rounds, and its not outta the realms of possibility Tyson knocks him down. He was a damn good, fast, precise and powerful hitter but thats the only way i see him even taking a round. Nothing wrong with tysons heart either (ok, we can say holyfield when he wanted out but i aint gonna hold that against his career no more than i hold durans quit against leonard, against his career), but Ali drags him into deep water for a late stoppage/KO. I simply cannot even envision tyson winning a round clearly without a knockdown but im digressing from the question asked. His best chance of winning is to jump on Ali early and hope for a stoppage cos he aint knocking him out.
