indeed. Here JT1, bit off topic, your here a long time whilst i dip my toe not as often as i did, but looking through some of the older threads i noticed quite a few long time guys have been binned. Was there a mass cull or an epic royal rumble im not aware of??
Sure. But back the day Amateurs didnt wear helmets, so comparation to Pros is more legit as it would be today. So or so Ali was dropped by Hudson with a left hook too (like others).
I wasn't around for a bit but i believe they killed off all secondary ID's at some point? I think that wiped a lot out. @McGrain would that be right?
Ali wasn't even a heavyweight at the time. But sure he was certainly dropped as an amateur light heavyweight and came back to stop the other guy.
Yeah, lots of guys had second accounts killed, many guys had their accounts suspended or deleted during the exodus to the other forum, and of course, if you're looking over a long enough time period (Say ten years) you'll see numerous banned guys anyway.
Maybe the purely physical skills (not sure on that), but he certainly didn't have the boxing skills to defeat 60s or early 70s Ali. But what you said about mental tools...that might be the most important factor. Ali would have treated him like dog poo, embarrassed him endlessly in the press, laughed at him if Mike tried to intimidate him... I think that last, in itself, would ensure even the Might Prime Mike Tyson would lose right into 1974 Ali. Ali would have made him feel like a little white girl.
Ali spent the first half of round 1 dancing, getting his rhythm, reading his opponent's reactions to his head and hand feints. If Tyson times him and gets him going towards a corner, jabs his way in, then explosively rips the hook to the body and uppercut to the head, he may catch Ali cold and then have him in real danger. This is how I would ask Tyson to try to fight that Ali - be patient, jab with him and then slip and counter when he's close to the ropes/corner, shift, stand almost square and fire off in combination explosively.
Tyson could comfortably stop him, Ali wasn't too difficult to tag in truth. A well prepared, focused Tyson could stop anyone with his power, pressure & speed.
Frazier beat Ali when Ali was coming back. When he was fully back, he didn't lose to Frazier again. Prime Ali was damn near unbeatable. Prime Tyson didn't fight good fighters.
