What's interesting is if you hear the post-fight of Marciano-Walcott. Marciano says he knew he was a hair behind and was hoping he could get that right or left in. And the announcer replies like "You sure got that right in" and Marciano says "Yeah, I got right and then the left hook." That would seem to show there was no ill will or bad intentions. Like Marciano wasn't even completely aware Walcott was out or done after that right hand because he was focused on the task at hand.
that is just bull****.... a rule is a rule no matter what any referee says or depends...he can allow a certain breaking of the rules. one even can win by a bad descision from a referee. but then the fact remains that you won by breaking the rules.. so you're win doesn't mean ****...
Went to look for the Frazier - Bugner fight but it looks like it has been taken down. That was a true act of sportsmanship from Smoking Joe.
I remember Lewis doing that sometimes. It was particularly apparent in the Ruddock fights: he runs to the neutral corner like Charlie having got the Golden Ticket and then stands with his arms by his sides like a tired but duitiful soldier. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxv4SUN5QEs[/ame] Arms at sides- 3:01 Runs over- 4:24 And here- [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0em16mPPvR0&feature=related[/ame] I really think he didn't have to worry with THIS KO- [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjxJ2LH1M-4[/ame] - though by this stage he's more into a "gentle-canter" phase.
Yeah, Lewis seemed to do it too. That gentle-canter was like "I dare you to get up because I know you can't."
lastarza 2..if not a disqualification...then rocky should have had several rounds taken from him on fouls...(i go for the dq) ..don cockell...definitely a dq....i've always said that the last legal punch thrown in walcott I... was walcott's right hand...after rocky's right hand kayo....the left hook was when walcott was down...but i think that's calling it too fine...walcott was on the ropes and probably out...but not so obviously as to say the left hook was against a downed fighter. summation..marciano was a deliberately and knowingly a dirty fighter...and al weill's influence helped him get by with it.
I said Cockell was in over his head, all the more reason for not fouling him really ,as he was not in with a realistic chance of victory so butts, low blows, and hitting while on the floor were never necessary.. I was ringside when Minter fought Hagler, I think the crowd believed Hagler had butted Minter, but there was absolutely no excuse for what came after. I think you will get as fair a shake from the officials, and referee in England as any where in the world.Certainly a better one than in some parts of the States and Europe.Germany ,Italy ,and Spain have given some notoriously bad decisions. and so has Las Vegas. Actually Lewis was never completely embraced by the Uk boxing public ,their hearts were allways with Bruno.
Lewis definitely warranted a DQ for that nonsense. That was apalling. Foreman-Roman is probably the most blatant instance of hitting a man while he's down in a heavyweight title match. 1:45 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyiFIdbN2H4[/ame] This content is protected [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqk42SsptGU"][/ame]
Yeah, and at 4:20 he can again be seen hitting a downed man, though not quite as disgracefully as he did against Acey.
