I never hedge, I love a spirit in man that can come back from behind, get off the floor to win, get an injury and keep going...I love a 37 year old Walcott and I love Marciano and what he was made of. Tyson was my favorite Heavyweight from Sonny Liston, Foreman to the Klitschko's but I favor Marciano who did get off the floor to win and did overcome injuries to win. Just like I think B-Hop never looked better than he does now...I think Walcott put it all together when he won a title and the man that defended against Marciano was formidable Champion. We can say Tyson went from fighting in the under 200 division and lost to Henry Tillman in his Olympic quest and gained 15 lbs of muscle was a great offensive fighter, he was solid, a excellent puncher and he was. The Douglas and Holyfeild fight showed me a different side when someone took his best and hit back and Tyson never got off the floor to win or overcome an injury and he only stopped Ribalta after 8rds so his power weaned....that was his flaw and I can assure you Marciano would be in the mix and hitting back hard....I dont like to hear about weight because there were different training methods and lets say supplements today and heavys back then fought to fight 15 hard rds..... Like I said before a fight between the two would boil down to heart and stamina and the will to win and I must favor Marciano in these area's....Is it a sure thing...what is in boxing
Dude, you are absolutly clueless.................what are you , 125 pounds soaking wet having a David and Goliath complex? WEIGHT IS EVERYTHING IN BOXING THATS WHY WE HAVE WEIGHT DIVISIONS. WE are not talking fat, we are talking in shape.............. Nobody beats Tyson toe to toe. Period. Especially not some 185 pound limited brawler who comes right at you and is as easy to nail as a two cent ho. WAs he tough, proud and extremly well conditioned ? Sure but also fought in a pathetic weak timeframe where old shopworn balding starving broke beansticks were the top fighters....... Heart and stamina ? LOL, you have never been in a fight in your life...........Gatti , Corrales, Meldrick Taylor, Frazier etc etc, even the WK against Sanders, had plenty of it but were simply outgunned by the better fighters ......... Dreamers like you always come uo with this heart.stamina BS when it come to the Rock because that is the only thing you can cling on in your fantasy world of those old timers. Let me enlighten you, Tyson had plenty of heart and stamina when he actually took fighting seriously and when he felt he had to proof himself plus he had speed, punching power AGAINST LEGITIMATE 220 POUND Heavyweights and up, superb defense, could throw every punch textbook style, awesome combination puncher with KO power in both hands and God given talent that only comes around every 30-40 years or so.........Marciano is not even in the same zipcode when it comes to what I just described. Fact.
Bummy: I was asking about Tyson v.s. Walcott ... Sauhund II : A bit heavy handed but very solid point about Gatti, Taylor, Coralez ect .. the fighters mentioned and dozens of others showed as much heart as Rocky ever did and still had their heads handed to them . Somehow Marciano extremeists feel he overcomes all ...
First of all I have been in plently of fights in my life and I have a pretty good pulse on human charactor. Usually when a guy is rude or talks tough on the phone or the internet because he has a differnce of opinion and gets mad, he is usually a punk that would not talk so tough if that person was standing there. I have seen a lot of muscled up guys in the heavyweight division and there have been quite a few who got big unnaturally and that is only in the heavyweight divison because there is no weight restriction... if it was bodybuilding than Shannon Briggs or Frank Bruno may be the champ....Fact is Tyson only once KO'd a man after 8rds and it was Jose Ribalta and Mike never got off the floor to win...He had great offensive skills but where were they in the Holyfield fight..were they taken away vs a man who was not intimadated....Buster Douglas lost every big fight but the Tyson fight...I think a lot of Tyson but these were his flaws...If Tyson was in the 50's he would have different training methods and if Marciano trained now it would be for 12 instead of 15 and he would be be more muscled because of the way they train heavys now.. by the way I weigh about 200lbs and I am solid....I have fought all sizes and have done pretty well...I have 6 brothers and they are all good with there hands and are known for it. I have been around fights both in the street and the ring all my life so I think even though I am polite most of the time to posters who have a difference of opinion it is cybor punks like you that are more than likely a 17 year punk who is enamored with Big muscles on the outer exterior and does not look at what is inside a man
I love Walcott as a very live underdog in a fight with Tyson...and I would place a large bet on him...and yes the Walcott of Marciano1....I would make a very large bet but I would not bet the house.....you can never be too sure in boxing
Bummy: Fair enough. I disagree with you but it is certainly a worthy opinion. Walcott was extremely talented.
While I agree it can get annoying, in a way that sentiment is justified since he did overcome all. He found a way every time... Not saying I agree, mind...just saying.
Nicely said, Bummy Davis! Perhaps some of these kids played with too many "action" figures while growing up. At any rate, keep up your level-headed and sober responses. Well, perhaps not sober in every way!
I can't believe you praise these jackass type posts. Hardly any good points outside the obvious. Comparing Gatti's & Taylor's dedication/chin to Rocky is laughable. I am a huge Gatti fan but the guy drank and partied that is why he cut up in 40 seconds in the fight. Marciano not only had heart but his stamina was unsurpassed by any HW and his chin was iron. It's not just a heart thing... Gatti takes on punches like an absolute warrior but he no way in hell had superior defense than Rocky. Praising this sort of stuff is silly. Nice editing. Yes, Berbick wasn't terrified. LoL... you have a terrible eye on judging things obviously. Didn't you also argue Spinks wasn't terrified. LOL Classic! Berbick fought the right fight too, right... or do I remember the commentator saying the complete opposite. Keep it up you're making ridiculously entertaining comments.
As soon as Tyson was hit with Rock's power he starts to back up then its game over Rocky by KO 8-9 rds.
Berbick beat better competition than Marciano? What? Thomas, Page, Tate, all fine fighters are on the Rex Layne, Joe Louis, and Roland Lastarza level. They certainly do not compare to Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles(of the first fights), Archie Moore level.
I find it funny how Hegrants continues to harp on this "Size" difference issue, yet insists Sam Langford(who is equally as small to marciano as the rock is to tyson) knocks Marciano out. That is Convoluted Logic if I have ever seen
Whilst I don't agree with Bummy that Marciano could beat Tyson, YOU sound clueless by saying that. Marciano was not crude, he had a lot of cute tricks and as long as he's in there with Tyson he makes it a fight. I just don't feel that would be very long.
