The problem with that is when they are seperated it takes Rocky a relatively long time to get into range when he walks into his opponents bobbing and weaving his way in.... Tyson would be quick enough to time that with one hell of an uppercut, he'd fo that all night long and unless Mike smothers his own work too much Rocky should be out of there in less than 6 rounds.
Another thing in Tyson's favor is the fact that he can take a hell of a shot. Rocky's right hand had serious power but wouldn't be able to stop Tyson with a shot like he did with Jersey Joe. And people say he never possessed fight changing heart, the 8th round against Douglas says differently. Tyson never got off the canvas to win but that's due to the fact you had to nearly kill him before he'd fall.
I think the question here is if Tyson rushes out fast will he also have to take a shot in return. Tyson only once KO'd a man past the 8th rd and Marciano was getting warmed up around the 8th. I think Marciano's confidence, stamina, heart and better mental strength would enable him to overcome Mike's early rush but would Mike rush in? he could make it easier for Rocky......I am a Tyson fan, the guy had a great offence but in the area's he was lacking ( I just mentioned), Marciano excelled......Marciano by KO around the 9th -10th rd.
This is actually a very good point. Tyson took huge shots from some very solid hitters, ie. Smith, Bruno, Tucker, Ruddock, etc... But, you had to hit him on numerous occasions and preferably on a night when he was a little off his game in order to get him on the canvas... For this reason, I think that people are mislead into thinking that his chin is suspect.
Thats a great point and one thing many people over look!. Edit: Looks like some1 beat me to this point, but still it stands!!. And Tyson was probably the fastest starter of all heavys, so that isnt really a great point in Rockys favour.
I think the point is that he never just gave up, he would keep fighting until he couldnt fight anymore.
Did he? I think he gave up against Williams and i'm satisfied that he gave up against Lewis late in the fight. He took his beatings, mind.
Didnt he tear his cruciate ligament in the Williams fight? I dont think he gave up against Lewis he kept taking massive shots and was getting a major beating for a fair few rounds. This was even at a time were Tyson himself says his heart wasnt in boxing and he just wanted to pay the bills.
